Was there a press conference of some sort last night?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 10:30 AM by underpants
I'm sorry I watched what I thought was a Q & A session with someone the graphic said was "President" but didn't get to see the end of that particular endless rambling that that guy was on because CBS finally cut to something far more credible and accurate, "Survivor".

I missed the usual talking head convention telling me not what I just saw (an embarrassment) but what a wonderful job that a**hat did and what he really meant.

This morning I awoke and flipped around at the top and bottom of each hour to see the recap on the major news networks and *POOF* it's like it never happened. Almost no mention was made of it and the only footage they showed was of the speech at the beginning not the mindless verbal meandering of someone clearing unable to fulfill the oath of office.

Was it all just a dream? A nightmare? Am I imagining things?

I feel as hopelessly lost as this guy

I did find this

LOVE the headline

Bush's Social Security Plan Cuts Benefits

He seemed to be running low right when the mercy cut away was done.

2. I was just going to post a similar thread; how DID the
talking heads spin this horror? I also switched to news later, but it seemed like it was a done deal. No one was addressing what our fearless leader said, after blathering on incessantly prior to the event.

For one thing he was clearly reading again in fact he was looking down to see who to call next.

I switched on Headline News (15 seconds of coverage at most) then over to Fox News (must have missed it) then CNN (runaway Bride?). I reversed it at 6:30 with basically the same results. Switched over to Imus they were talking about the NBA playoffs I think and back around nothing nada. The Today Show had very little either (Hey they were in VEGAS baby!!)

Amazing. I guess if you can't say anything nice......

5. Stay out of sweeps week
if you want enthusiastic hyping. Clear message and consistent with the past intrusions. Also protecting Bush just isn't relevant from both a Lame Duck and boxed out opposition point of view. The less fire to get the masses excited about legislative controversy the better.

The mere appearance of the Prez is an unqualified boost unless one looks too close, so they don't, even if it means flat polling.

6. I forgot to check if Fox was carrying it
Not Fox News but Fox TV. When I told my wife about it she told one of her younger co-workers and they were PISSED that "The OC" might not be on. Apparently that show is the new Melrose Place and Dawson's Creek.

7. the thing I like best about the title
"Bush's Social Security Plan Cuts Benefits" is that we needed to take urgent URGENT action to prevent -- what? -- oh, yes -- a reduction in benefits several years down the road. :wtf:

Sounds like we could do nothing and be in better shape.

8. "At times, he twisted the toe of his shoe on the carpeted riser." Yikes!
Bush held his first prime-time televised news conference in more than a year as he scrambles to generate momentum for his stalled Social Security plans and to calm anger over $2-a-gallon gasoline prices. Those two issues have dragged his approval ratings down.

The president appeared at ease in the East Room of the White House as he fielded questions from reporters after a 7-minute opening statement. At times, he twisted the toe of his shoe on the carpeted riser.

9. more people are dying in terrorist attacks on your watch than ever before?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/04/20050428-9.html

Q Mr. President, your State Department has reported that terrorist attacks around the world are at an all-time high. If we're winning the war on terrorism, as you say, how do you explain that more people are dying in terrorist attacks on your watch than ever before?
