13% of Americans say Bush to blame; 62% say progress is "satisfactory"
Respondents also disagreed widely on who is to blame for the problems in the city following the hurricane -- 13 percent said Bush, 18 percent said federal agencies, 25 percent blamed state or local officials and 38 percent said no one is to blame. And 63 percent said they do not believe anyone at federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired as a result.

In recent days, 62 percent said they believe progress made in dealing with the situation is satisfactory.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/07/katrina.poll/index.html

So I guess in regards to Bush, only 13% of American's believe in Truman's motto, "the buck stops here?"

It's a pretty frightening statistic. When only 13% of the people hold the president of the U.S. accountable and can have their minds so easily manipulated (or simply don't care anymore), we are in grave peril.

10. It IS a bullshit poll
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 12:15 AM by rocknation
It was Bush's idea to make FEMA a federal agency, so that should be 31 per cent for him.

5. Polls are such bullshit - carefully worded questions asked by Republicans
Or GOP-leaning or GOP supportive groups. Like CNN/USA Today/Gallup.

I don't believe only 13% for a minute. Everyone I've talked (people not into politics) to thinks he is most to blame for all of this.

7. I do believe the way the poll was worded made a difference.
For example, people apparently were forced to choose between blaming Bush or Federal agencies, but there was no choice for blaming both.

12. LOL, THAT poll is bullshit. Here's a better one!
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Forty-two percent of Americans said US
President George W. Bush has handled Hurricane Katrina badly while 35 percent thought he has performed well, according to a Gallup poll just published.

17. That is certainly better...
Although having less than half of Americans saying he handled it badly is still pretty pathetic.

The different results in this poll are no doubt the result of the question being worded differently in regards specifically to Bush's "performance."

19. Its not all bad news - 31% blame Bush or Feds. 25% blame local and or
state officials. That 25% I'm sure is the Gallop preselected crop of GOP respondents. By the way, why are we only seeing GOP shill Gallop polls?

20. Here is some info on that poll.........
From http://www.andrewsullivan.com/

KATRINA POLLING: Mark Blumenthal helps you make sense of it all. Bottom line:

The trend in the President's job rating on responding to Katrina has been a steady decline over the last week, a story not told by any other poll. Most important (at least to MP) is that interviewers conducted last night tend to confirm the drop in Bush's rating seen in the polls done in the heart of the weekend.
We'll see. Asking people if the president should be "blamed" for a hurricane is not a good question. Asking them if they disapprove of his response makes more sense. Last Wednesday, 39 percent disapproved. By Monday, 55 percent did.

But hopefully as the facts become more commonly known, people will start to wake up. If not, this country is in dire, dire trouble.

the GOP mailing list? The polls I've seen online said the opposite as long as they weren't on a conservative site.
