SurveyUSA Bush at 51% in Louisiana
Does anyone think that the fact that nobody from New Orleans was polled due to Katrina has something to do with this?

My guess is that when you combine that 51% representing the rest of Louisiana with New Orleans (where his approval has to be in low single digits at this point), then he is looking just as bad as everywhere else.

He also is at 55% in Mississippi, I would guess that even though it's Mississippi, the displaced hurricane victims would have a significant effect on this.

1. Unfortunately will they ever?
What I mean is if those displaced New Orleanians have no means to go back to Louisiana and choose to stay wherever they were shipped off to, then it's a moot point. They'll just be absorbed into their new home state's stats. :(

6. Yes, but so many of them are in other red states.
People who turn Democratic now in red states are still Democrats, so I don't really think it's a net loss on a voting scale.

Of course on a human psyche/property loss scale, it's still tragic.

9. Yeah, but TX?
Even though the number who were sent to TX is high, will that number even make a dent in the red that makes up TX?

14. The hurricanes are going to mess up the TX economy for a long time.
Between the people displacement in Katrina moving into Texas (which isn't having any more of an economic boom for real workers than anywhere else in the country, and was already short of affordable housing) and the property damage from Rita (and most parts of Texas are not rich), I think Texas can be swayed. Don't forget--it's only been about 15 years that its been Repuke. Remember LBJ? Remember Ann Richards? Ever hear of Molly Ivins? It's been Dem before, and I really believe it can be again.

2. Terribly cynical to conduct a poll in these states now.
But the reasons were fairly transparent. Repairing George's image, or perception thereof.

Of course the poll will not have questioned a fair enough sampling of the states' inhabitants.

Just plain cynicism on the part of SurveyUSA. I hope it wasn't paid for with taxpayer money.

Disgusting.

3. They'll twist and manipulate the polls
to try to convince Americans that all is swell and back on track. Americans tend to move in herds sometimes, but I think Katrina was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and people are PO'd. I just think they've been holding it in for a while. They call poll away, but I don't think John Q. Public is buying their crappola for the most part anymore.

4. That poll is worthless
All of New Orleans is gone, and a lot of the suburbanities too.

A poll is only valid if every eligible voter in the state has an equal chance of being surveyed.

5. Yeah, well ...
Unfortunately, I can't see how voting is going to be much different ... You can bet GOOD money, they will use the chaos from the hurricans to keep those who are a threat to their reign from using their votes ...

13. SurveyUSA is actually pretty reliable
They have been posting pretty shitty ratings for Bush recently. They are the ones that posted the map where they colored the states where Bush was below 50% in blue and above 50% in red. He was only red in 7 states.

My point was that he hasn't been 51% in Louisiana and that must be due to the fact that they can't poll New Orleans people for obvious reasons.
