Harriett Miers' nomination is another example of cronyism, right? I
mean she is a very close insider of Bush's as well as helping to pick Roberts to replace Rehnquist.

Bush just stated, "I know her heart." Did he mean like he knew "Putin's" heart?

Well, she looks like a pleasant lady, but looks can be deceiving. She also looks like those ladies that sit in church judging everyone else in the church. She doesn't look pro-choice to me either. She stated she admired her mother's "faith." Also, a lady on Washington Journal is now talking about how Ms. Miers is involved in a lot of religious groups. Uh oh! There goes another vote against separation of church and state.

But, as always, looks can be deceiving. These hearings are going to be as boring as Roberts. Except for one thing, it's sexist but true. They will not get tough with this soft-spoken woman.

4. not at all uncommon to name "cronies"
The "cronyism" charge is a red herring, as is the lack of judicial experience. If there isn't a skeleton in Miers closet, she'll be confirmed with even more votes than Roberts.

3. yes. And in this great big country of ours, I have to believe
that there is a better, far more qualified person with some actual judicial experience who is not connected personally to this White House who could be nominated.

If the Dems approved this nomination in advance, then I give up. I really do. It means the entire system is so broken that nothing I can think of can save it (and us).

The Supreme Court is the last defense of the average citizen for politics running roughshod over law.

5. "I know her heart" OL
Does that mean she's in love with GW? Apparently, like Condi, she's a lifelong spinster and dedicated to GW.

I just find it odd that George seems to attract umarried, childless, women.

6. How do pro choice people look?
I think the problem mainly lies in the fact that we are all left attempting to deduce her stand on issues by her choice of clothing and accessories.

8. Well, I've dug myself a hole with that one. I've really come across

rather judgmental.

My first reply was long and drawn out about how I didn't judge her by her appearance. However, when I went back and looked at what I wrote, I was being rather judgmental on her appearance. However, it wasn't her accessories or clothes though. I think more of her quiet, timid mannerisms plus the remarks about her being one of the few that has been in Bush's inner circle for a long time.

I sounded rather neoconservative with those remarks. I believe it was more like a knee-jerk reaction to be honest.

7. It's just a payoff for her past and future silence on the Bushes
Afterall, she's been the one to "protect" both Bushes in the past from "secrets" they have in their closets, has she not?
