Howard Dean Endorses Clinton for 2008 Race! |
|
Dean Hypes Hopes For Mrs. Clinton In 2008 Race October 02, 2005 The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, hyped Senator Clinton's presidential prospects in an appearance with her yesterday, describing her as a role model for "young women who hope one day that they will have a spot on the ticket."
Dems Agree to Recommend Early Primaries October 02, 2005 Democrats trying to change their presidential primaries for 2008 agreed Saturday to recommend that at least two other states join Iowa and New Hampshire in voting during the opening days of the nominating campaign.
OK, be Prez, N.Y.ers tell Hil October 02, 2005 New polls yesterday showed Sen. Hillary Clinton has a virtual lock on reelection and the go-ahead from New York voters to run for President - even if they wish she wouldn't.

48. What's obvious is that no DNC Chair should show partisanship.. |
|
And upon a closer reading of Dean's statements, it looks to me that he's only suggesting Hilary as an inspiration for young girls, and not indicating any particular part of a Ticket (Pres or VP).

12. Yes, Dean said Hillary was an inspiration |
|
for "young women who hope one day that they will have a spot on the ticket."
That sounds like Dean is saying Hillary will have "a spot on the ticket" (which could be VP) and will thus be an inspiration to young women with similar dreams.

|
They're attacking her support for the Iraq war and her recent opportunistic rightward shift.
To claim people on DU who don't like Hillary are sexist is ludicrous, as evidenced by the overwhelming support women like Cindy Sheehan and Barbara Boxer receive here.
Stop being so sensitive about everything.

Some Hillary fan-club website is spinning Dr Dean's remarks to make it look like she would have his support.
My guess is that Dr Dean does not feel like he owes Hillary's DLC wing of the party anything at all, but he is a team player so will try his best not to diss her in public.

I'm not a Hillary fan, I'll support a candidate in the primaries who had the good sense to oppose the Iraq war, and if she gets the nomination, make my decision as to whether to vote for her or for a third party candidate before the general election.

24. Dean does not want Hillary |
|
Dean is DNC chairman and a team player. Of course he says nice stuff about Hillary when he is asked to say something about her on the record. But if you read that quote - Dean said that Hillary is a role model for "young women who hope one day that they will have a spot on the ticket."
Sorry - but how do you get from that to having the idea that Dean wants Hillary to be the nominee in 2008? If he wanted to suggest that then he could have said something less indirect about 2008, something about Hillary being a leader - rather than just a role model.

"You're a woman, Hil, even if you did vote with the Repugs on Iraq and have been far less than a beacon of hope for progressives. I, Howard Dean, who does have that role within the Party, support Democratic women who want to run for President and Vice President. You're a flawed prototype Hil, and probably unelectable even after Bush's reign of chaos (which is why the opposition want you on the ticket in '08), but you will do as a role model for others."

57. Hardly a ringing endorsement |

and there's no denying she's a frontrunner for the spot. I don't get what the problem is and I have no use for Hillary. But then again I don't get my hate on for Dean so that could be the problem.

78. Forget trying to put a woman in the WH........ |
|
The good ole boys won't vote for women or a minority for president. Remember your dealing with a country where more and more people are leaning to the right. Fears abound and the conseratives are the most fearful group out there. Look how they react to gay rights, welfare and muslums. What makes you think these people will put a woman in the WH?

86. I would hold off on the disappointment. |

It sounds like it may have been taken wildly out of context. I would need more than one line from a not particularly reliable source to jump to any conclusions.
