Little, round, effective at destroying Western Civilization
Posted by Amanda Marcotte at 11:36 PM

BAH BAH BAH BUM.

They seem so innocent, don't they? Just sitting there in the little dial pack, cleverly disguised as just another one of those icky girlie make-up-y things, as if there was some kind of conspiracy to keep men from knowing about it. No sirs, she's not just powdering her nose! She's thwarting your manhood!

Just in time for Halloween, kiddos, a horror story to end all horror stories by Leon Kass. Yes, part two of his series known commonly as "Bitch, Get Back in the Kitchen", but what Kass would prefer us to call "The End of Courtship". This part is about how the birth control pill actually turns into a monster in the middle of the night that crawls up men's legs and detaches their testicles from their bodies. Oh wait, no. I'm sorry. It's about how romance is ruined when you have the sort of sex where you can relax and enjoy it because you aren't worried about getting pregnant.

Kass: "The sexual revolution that liberated (especially) female sexual desire from the confines of marriage, and even from love and intimacy, would almost certainly not have occurred had there not been available cheap and effective female birth control — the pill — which for the first time severed female sexual activity from its generative consequences."

Yes, I know. I had the same thought as anyone who knows jack about history. "But Mr. Kass, people used diaphrams, condoms and vasectomies before the pill was invented. What about that?" That's where you have to pay special attention to the fact that the pill is female birth control, and as I said before, a particularly sneaky kind of birth control, what with the making the pill pack look like Clariol put it out and all. (Devious ladies who are thwarting your man's good-hearted intentions to keep you pregnant all the time--since god knows there is nothing more romantic than swollen feet, weight gain, and labor pains--I recommend slapping like a L'Oreal sticker on your pills. Bwah ha ha! He'll never know!) In summary, the problem was that women shouldn't be allowed to get away with this shit.

Kass: "Thanks to technology, a woman could declare herself free from the teleological meaning of her sexuality — as free as a man appears to be from his."

snip
Kass: "Her menstrual cycle, since puberty a regular reminder of her natural maternal destiny, is now anovulatory and directed instead by her will and her medications, serving goals only of pleasure and convenience, enjoyable without apparent risk to personal health and safety."

Please go to the link above and read the whole article, Kass's statements and Amanda's rejoiners....scary and hilarious.

1. Okay
started to read laughing and then got angry as hell. I get so tired of waiting for these asshats to be reincarnated as women. Let's see how you feel after YOU'VE(he) been date raped. It isn't nice.
Thanks for the post........

2. I can't decide whether to laugh or to cry....
God, the fact that he thinks it's the PILL destroying Western "Civ"?
Like it would be so bad anyway to free a whole culture from our fear and shame drilled into us about sexuality, coupled with the sexuality of advertising, resulting in all manner of confusion? That'd be just terrible :eyes:

22. Yes, the whole point of religious descrimination against
birth control seems to be, in reality, the reduction of women back to the status of non-people. I've thought for some time that this is the primary motivation behind the "neo"Con agenda. Virulent conservatism arose in the 80s, right after the Women's and the Gay Liberation Movements began making headway in society. Perceiving equality of all as a foundation of Liberal thinking, "neo"Cons are therefore attacking Liberalism at its roots--the New Deal of the 30s. This, I think, is why the Republicans have made no real effort to derail Roe vs Wade, even though they've been in power for decades now. Their intention is to destroy what they view as the "disease" first, and then go after the "symptoms".

I'm hoping the current spate of indictments might slow this agenda down a bit. Not real confident or optimistic, though. :(

4. Why is it always our fault?
Honestly. :eyes: Everything is always the woman's fault: all of Western Civilization will crumble because of women and our choices? Whatever, Dude.

What happened to personal responsibility? Why don't men look in the mirror and wonder about their own sexuality and the effects of their own dick-driven actions? Seriously--it's all my fault because I have chosen when to have my kids and that I don't want any more? He's such a dick.

5. I can't wait for THE revolution
when we can roast such dick-heads over an open fire.

Birth Control takes the romance out of sex. Puhleeez. When were most men ever romantic anyway?

8. Me either.
I can't even begin to understand what he's really saying. It's like he wants to go back to a time that never existed to be able to have some kind of more spiritual sex because . . . um . . . women could get preggers at any time. That guy's wife needs to smack him up side his head with a brick. Either that, or do the more historically correct thing and slowly poison him. ;)

he's single. Sounds to me like it isn't getting any and he doesn't think anyone else should either, especially a woman.

;)

Honestly, though, it is hard to see how any woman could put up with an idiot like that. I'm going to check it out.

Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 11:09 AM by HawkerHurricane
He doesn't believe in birth control, he should have about 1 kid per year of marraige...
Or did she 'chemically castrate' him with her Birth Control pills, and that's why he's upset?
on edit
Read downthread he only had two daughters. His wife DID chemically castrate him!

that his wife stopped having sex with him after the second child. I got the impression he is catholic, so that could be the only reason for not having more children. Like I said earlier.. he aint gettin any.

25. Leon Kass is another crazy Jew who was replaced by a pod
like Marvin Olasky and Jay Sekulow, Fundie converts. This isn't the liberal Jewish thinking that I was brought up with. I can't imagine what their childhood rabbi did to them.

God, what is happening to my people?

26. Or she might have done something else.
Maybe he came to this conclusion only after his wife had used the pill, his daughters had used the pill, and he had been the beneficiary.

I think it's time for his wife to go Lysistrata on him. ;)

9. The "romance"
of thinking every episode will impregnate the little woman and show what a big stud YOU are.

That will keep the old putter standing up for sure!

Check out the mortality statistics on women BEFORE the pill. We died in droves.

21. HER fault! HER fault! HER fault!
remember in The Handmaid's Tale, when (I think) Jeanine is describing her gang rape? And at the end the circle of women is pointing at her chanting "HER/YOUR fault! HER/YOUR fault! HER/YOUR fault!"

I just learned, recently, in the circumcision threads that women are responsible for misogyny because we circumcise boy babies! And, there wouldn't be any misogyny if we would let men slice off our nipples!

Goddess, take me away from it all, please.

24. I've wondered that too
Why do we have to be the "civilized" ones while it is alright for them to go around and screw everyone who they want without any concern for the consequences?

28. Maybe that's our fault, too.
Maybe we "drive" them to it, and they are overwhelmed with lust--so it's still our fault.

Of course, that's such a high school way of passing the buck. :eyes:

13. Kass's bio--quite scary.
Here's the site:
http://www.bioethics.gov/about/kass.html

He's an MD/Ph.D and married with two daughters and four granddaughters. He's a pig who had only girls?! That's so evil and wrong. :grr: I hope his daughters know to roll their eyes at him and then go and do what they want.

What a communistic, radical idea...shame on you.

The scary thought is that alot of RW evangelicals are buying into this shit....are they over-producing as a result? Will they outnumber us? Oh wait, there's still the Chinese.

the mental abuse is just as bad. I really hope this is some idea he came up with later in life and that he was a good father when his daughters were at home.

20. "Her menstrual cycle, since puberty a regular reminder of her natural
maternal destiny . . . "

BWA HA HA HA!!! I haven't heard that nonsense since my 6th grade knobbied-kneed gym teacher tried to explain menstration with a very bad film strip.

Somehow, with the practice of safe sex, I've dodged the bullet of my "natural maternal destiny". I don't begrudge the option to others, but I know my limitations, and I'm glad I was not denied the choice of being childless.
