I want people to leave Senator Mary Landrieu alone (Alito inspired)
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 10:20 AM by ...of J.Temperance
I'm tired of people ganging up on her and beating up on her. The latest round is that she's going to vote for this Samuel Alito freak...well, I'm telling you she's NOT going to vote for him.

Oh but she was GREAT wasn't she when she threatened to punch the Bush bastard?

This makes my blood boil. Senator Landrieu is a brilliant Senator and I like her. She's a damn good Democrat and she's from a solidly Democratic family, she HAS the credentials.

If someone wants to beat up on a Senator, then might I suggest that piece of shit from Nebraska Ben Nelson, a man who nearly 100% of the time votes with his ACTUAL party the Repuke Party.

Senator Landrieu's voting record on KEEPING Social Security, KEEPING Medicare, RAISING the minimum wage, KEEPING Roe vs Wade etc is PERFECT. Her voting record isn't THAT different from Senator Kerry's.

So, I've done my piece, so I suppose I'm going to get beaten up now too. Well I don't care, go ahead.

1. not perfect
she did vote for the bankruptcy bill: Kerry didn't (though I mistakenly posted last week that he did).
I like Mary and will continue to vote to return her to the Senate...unless her brother runs against her.

2. Mitchell's going to run for Governor
And that nonsense about him running for Mayor is just that NONSENSE.

The Landrieu's are a wonderful, compassion, remarkable and unique family.

6. I know and it has to stop
...Unless we're talking about Ben Nelson of course.

We must stop this bashing of our OWN people, we must stay united in order to stop the Neo-Fascists.

9. Even Ben Nelson gives us a D instead of an R in Congress
And when they tally to see who gets to set the rules and chair committees, that D is the most important thing there is. Ben Nelson doesn't defeat any of our bills. The Republicans do.

12. He might not defeat any of our bills
But he rarely votes for ANYTHING with our side when it comes to a floor vote.

23. But he's still a notch towards regaining the Senate
Our problem is much deeper than not having enough votes. Even if Nelson voted our way, we wouldn't win anything. The party with the majority in Congress sets the rules, they set the legislative agenda (literally) and they decide what even gets voted on, much less how the vote will turn out.

If Ben Nelson is one of 51 Democratic Senators in 2006, then he is worth his weight in gold, even if he votes with the Republicans on every single issue, because he would give us control of the Senate, the committees, the rules, the legislative agenda--everything.

Now, if we have 52 Senators, we can boot his sorry butt. :-) But until we gain control, every Dem is our allie. That's the part too many miss.

10. Thank you as well
I believe in loyalty, and I'm VERY loyal to certain people and certain politicians and I'd go to the WALL for them, the politicians:

Senator Landrieu
Senator Edwards
Governor Blanco
Governor Warner - Va
General Wesley Clark
Senator Clinton
President Bill Clinton
Governor Easley - NC
Governor Siegelman - Al

5. Yeah She's Great isn't she?
She Voted for the "Clean Coal Inititive" great vote there. Well, I guess her voting record on the Environment isn't perfect.

Senator Landrieu voted FOR the Firearms Manufacturers Protection Act. So I guess her voting record isn't PEFECT on Tort Reform, Violence, and is pro Big Corporations over the little guy.

- Calls for the dismissal of all qualified civil liability actions pending on the date of enactment by the court in which the action was brought

Let's not forget her shining moment in the Sun, the Bankruptcy Reform Bill, which screwed the little guy every which way you can imagine. She voted to screw the little guy, and thus voted with the Repugniks, and with the Corporations.

7. Her state is really conservative though. Even my beloved Sen Byrd
voted for the bankruptcy bill. Broke my heart on that one.

But, Byrd led the charge against Iraq Resolution and so he deserves those of us who know we were lied to's respect.

Landrieu stood up to Bush after Katrina and gave a great speech on the Senate floor that stuck Bush's plans of privitization back in his eye.
I gained respect for her watching and listening to her stand up for her Louisiana constituents time after time.

Lieberman is worse than all of them. So...I guess we have to pick our folks to get mad at according to how much good is on one side of the tally sheet compared to the bad stuff on the other side.

14. Landrieu has to walk a very fine line
And I think she manages to do that amazingly and she'd go to the mat for Louisiana.

11. As I've said all along...
1) She's is not the elected official of the vast majority of DU. If she's not your elected official, you have no right to demand ANYTHING from her. If you hate her that much, donate to her primary opponent.

2) Without Landrieu, we're one seat further away from a majority. We NEED Landrieu. Period. We cannot win back the Senate without Landrieu, either Nelson, or any other Democratic Senator that we love to bash here.

3) Why do you think Kennedy and Boxer can be "perfect"? Because unlike Landrieu, they DO NOT FEAR RE-ELECTION! You want more Dems like Boxer, Conyers, and Kucinich? Create the conditions for that on a grassroots level. Without making sure our leaders are safe, they cannot be as "fearless" as you demand.

4) Grow up people. Not every Democrat is going to think exactly like you do.

16. I have a lot of respect for Landrieu.
She has been fighting for issues she cares for with a lot of courage.

I dont necessarily agree with her on some issues (energy for example), but part of it is linked to the fact that she is the Senator from Louisiana.

This said, now is not the time to attack ANY Democrat. It is time to tell us what we think they should do on this issue, and this goes for Nelson, Landrieu, Byrd, or anybody else.

18. This is my defining moment. Any Dem who jumps ship on Alito
is a Republican, IMO.

Nothing short of this going down in flames or the GOP going nuke is acceptable on this nominee.

The time is now. They either shit or it's time to push them off the pot.

20. She voted to open ANWR--unforgiveable, in my humble opinion...
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 11:07 AM by joeybee12
...the Repukes really ganged up on her in the last election, and for a brief moment she seemed to realize she owes them nothing. Now she's gone back to being an enabler. Loved how she got yelled at by Anderson Cooper after Katrina hit...I think that repersents (and she's not the only one) how clueless people in Washington are--they are so isolated they can't even see dead bodies floating in the street until someone points it out for them.
