Impressions from a second meeting with Lynn Woolsey, and four questions not asked
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2007-05-31 19:05. Congress | Impeachment

By Dan Monte

Don and I turned in 425 signatures for the Democrats.com impeachment
petition. We told Lynn that we collected these on 6 Wednesday lunch hours
in Santa Rosa. Lynn said that she would not endorse the impeachment
effort. She suggested that Conyers has to be on board or it will not
happen. Conyers needs to keep his Judiciary Committee at Pelosi's
pleasure. Lynn has no problem with the concept of impeaching this
administration as far as their culpability. She believes that if this
Congress, that ran on a platform of being against the war in Iraq, could
not vote to stop it then they will never vote for impeachment.

Lynn encouraged Don and I to focus on ending the occupation of Iraq. We
countered that Bush has stated that it will be for future Presidents to
bring the troops home. She encouraged us to work on election protection
and clean money. We countered that the 2000 and 2004 elections had been
stolen and that there is evidence that they are planning to steal 2008.
Lynn said that it took 18 months to impeach Clinton and that nothing got
done during that time. We countered that Clinton was impeached so that
nothing would get done, and that nothing good will get done until Bush is
gone because he will veto it.

We talked about investigations in Congress that could lead to impeachment
and Lynn did not have any information regarding that. We talked about the
House Judiciary hearings with Monica Goodling and James Comey and how
those indicated that members of the Department of Justice have perjured
themselves. I brought a copy of Greg Palast's ARMED MADHOUSE and opened it
to page 207 and showed Lynn Tim Griffin's name on an email with a subject
line of caging. Tim Griffin, now US Attorney for Arkansas, coordinated the
Administration's vote caging efforts of the 2004 election. Caging is a
vote suppressing felony. We asked what would happen if Conyers' committee
discovers crimes regarding the DoJ or the election of 2004. Would Pelosi
allow him to proceed towards impeachment then? 3,000,000 votes were
challenged by this caging effort.

We told Lynn that we have started a Resolution to Impeach Coalition to
lobby the 8 cities of Sonoma County to pass impeachment resolutions. Lynn
encouraged us to work on ending the occupation of Iraq, clean money, and
election reform. That's what we talk about when we discuss impeachment.
Pelosi, Hoyer, and Emanuel need to be pressured or impeachment will not
move forward. I suggested that organizations are planning 86 Democratic
primary challenges for the Democrats that voted for the funding to send a
loud and clear message, "Keep your promises or you will not stay in
Congress," to pressure the leadership to stop the war and instigate
impeachment.

1. Impeachment Does Not Have to Take 18 mo. It can be swift.

If, for example, a president ordered a nuclear strike against an American city, with hopefully, the military refusing to immediately carry out the order, I believe that Congress could impeach in one day and remove shortly after.

The main obstacle to removing Bush is that Cheney would become president immediately. He must be removed first and the Democrats need to be firm in not approving an unacceptable VP before Congress removes Bush
