Well, let's not forget what REALLY matters- Sen. Clinton lost.
I'll be quite happy with either Obama or Edwards as our nominee.

I just thank God Clinton lost, and lost hard.

2. Yup. The Dems are waking up.
That's even splitting the anti-Clinton vote between Obama and Edwards- and she beat neither of them.

Excellent, excellent news. Possibly the end of triangulation? The beginning of a new era of leadership?

I suppose we will just have to see.

12. I was thrilled that she ended up under 30%...
just having the old guard behind her on the podium during her concession speech while trying to say she's for change said it all!!

She was gracious though...I'll give her that.

64. I don't agree. We have reason to celebrate even if it is a small win against corporatism
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 12:25 AM by Morereason
She lost because she was seen as part of the corporate establishment. It is just a small win and may not be significant against the final outcome, but when the people win over corporatism it is something to be celebrated. This sends a Strong, needed message to DC, the DLC, and the DNC

That's one way to look at it
But here are the real numbers

Obama 38%
Edwards 30%
Clinton 29%

How Clinton gets one more delegate confuses me with the percentages as they were. But whatever. I personally am glad she lost...she does not represent a step forward for this party.

45. That is not what was being measured
The appeal of the candidates are what is being measured, not how many delegates they get. Reporting the delegates is spin to cover up the fact that she had such a dismal performace when it came to raw support. Most of the delegates for that state will not be determined until they actually have a primary. This was a preliminary test to measure support, and Hillary lost her butt. Her 1 delegate difference only means that it didn;t hurt her delegate count that bad, but there is still egg all over her face.

And I am happy.

15. Interesting how you report it in terms of delegates
Spin much?

She was nearly 10% less popular than the front-runner and she outspent the tar out of the person she lost 2nd place to.

Her loss is a real set-back.

And I consider this very hopeful. This party will not succeed by wistfully looking at the past...part of the Clinton past is what got us into this trouble in the first place and she shows no desire to deviate from the old ways. I am glad that Iowa rejected her "inevitability".

46. Only because the actual popular count makes her look worse
And that is spin.

No one cared about delegates last night....they only cared about how much support the candidates could raise. You are deliberately avoiding that issue.

And spin can be done with facts....especially if you pick and choose which facts to present or allow to be presented in rebuttal. That is a form of spin called "framing", but I suspect you know that already.

Just don't treat the rest of us like we are dumb enough to buy it.

18. This was a big loss. The details make it even worse
She lost the women's vote to Obama. She lost the indepents' vote to Obama. She lost the entire caucus to Edwards AND Obama. And only 20% of caucus-goers think her main feature -- experience -- is important.

That's a pretty big rejection of her message.

I was rejoicing! It is no secret on this site that I have been against johnnyboy since his second year in the senate. My vote helped get him there and I have been greatly disappointed. He, quite frankly, sucked as a senator. He ignored his constituents.

His co-sponsorship of and his vote for the IWR did him in as far as I am concerned. For gods' sake, he promoted *'s war!

You may be all for killing innocent people that never did anything to harm our country, but I am not.

It's in the Congressional record. He did co-sponsor the IWR, which could only have been for three reasons:

He believed *

He wanted the war

He voted for it to expedite a future run

Since he's your candidate, therefore you approve of his co-sponsorship and vote.

even if Clinton gets the nomination still (this is far from over), it's important she experienced a defeat. It will force her to eat some humble pie and realize that the party isn't interested in "inevitability" and that the "magic" of the Clintons may be fading. I hope she realizes she needs to do more than triangulate and pander to win.

She seemed a lot less arrogant than she has in a while and was quite gracious in her speech. I hope it's a sign of things to come.

I'm not for Clinton winning the nom- but I agree that this might force her to adjust her strategy and maybe start paying attention to the base a tiny bit.

As for changing the attitude of her supporters- I think that would actually be a good thing for her and the base.

dump Carville and as much as I love Bill, she needs to stand on her own two feet and RUN for PRESIDENT.

She needs to have a vision to inspire the youth of this country.

I love HC. I've seen her speak and she is awesome!

However, she can't hold a candle to Obama.

She needs to stop talking about all of her experience "while she was at the WH."

I do believe that she did a lot of good and probably did more than they let GORE do but she was not ELECTED to do anything.

I would absolutely support her if she gets the nomination but we'll see.

And the delegates:

Perhaps. I will say that the fact that she lost (and came in third) is about the only thing that united my Repub-loving parents and me in joy this morning. When you use others to gain power, trample and blacklist and send out your lackeys to twist arms, well people get turned off. I don't like her "people", I don't like her. I don't like power hungry families. We already had two Bushes and that turned out to be a real golden moment in history. As for being united I will vote for Hillary is she is our nominee as any Repub is worse. Still, I don't want her for my president. Obama or Edwards is just fine. By the way, I'm a woman.
