It didn't fit the moment and seemed forced. It would have been a good CONVENTION speech but hit me as over wrought for what was practically a three way tie in an early caucus. Basically reinforced the whole pretty words, no substance feeling I get.

7. HIllary gave a wonderful speech
So did Obama and Edwards.

we have a great group of candidates.

To say Hillary's IA speech was boring is just silly. It was gracious and inspiring.

40. Rather a subjective question
But I liked her message that the Democratic Party will bring change in 2008.

She didn't make it about Hillary --she made it about all of us.

In that way I found it more inspiring than either Edwards or Obama.

43. Didn't you find it odd that she latched on to Edwards and Obama
The two who have been talking change from the beginning, and the two (or arguably one) that inspired people enough to vote for them because of change?

If you look at the exit numbers, not many who wanted "change" voted for Hillary.

48.  As she stood there, in front of a group of relics from the 90's
with her entire candidacy now based on nostalgia for the 90s, I didn't get the impression of "exciting change!" that I do from Obama and to a lesser extent, Edwards.

It's not an amazing, out of line question, to ask you what you found inspiring about Hillary's speech, and then to ask you HOW she represents changes, when everything about her screams 14 years ago.

that's about as close to a 3 way tie as it gets.

How does the momentous occasion of a black man winning the Iowa caucus really fit a convention speech? I mean it would be like 6 or 7 months too late. I am not sure which "pretty words" you are talking about but I am pretty sure all the candidates used them last night even biden.

:eyes:

His involvement in the process added over 110,000 new voter to the rolls - he had an 8% victory (not quite a tie) and the next contest is only 5 days away (and according to the NH Sec. of State it will break their state records for primary participation).

What better moment to soar?

25. That's the point.
No other candidate could give that speech.

Ezra Klein -

Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. They enmesh you in a grander moment, as if history has stopped flowing passively by, and, just for an instant, contracted around you, made you aware of its presence, and your role in it. He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair. The other great leaders I've heard guide us towards a better politics, but Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal, and where we, its honored inhabitants, seem capable of achieving it, and thus of sharing in its meaning and transcendence.

There are going to be plenty of more challenges. He should save the "they said we wouldn't make it this far" stuff until he has at least IA and NH under his belt. If that happens.

it's a nice bookend for the "Edwards should have congratulated Obama in his speech" threads.

Everyone needs to get a grip! There are a lot of primary races to go. I liked Obama's speech. Sometimes it's nice to feel warm fuzzies based on empty platitudes.
