Clinton Campaign Disses Iowa
Via the Wall Street Journal...

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/01/04/iowa-isnt-that-important-clinton-staffers-say/">Here

ON BOARD THE CLINTON PLANE — After pouring millions of dollars and nearly a year of effort into a win in Iowa, senior staffers for Democrat Hillary Clinton now say the state isn’t that important after all.

“The worst thing would be to over count Iowa and its importance,” said chief strategist Mark Penn, just hours after the New York senator finished in a disappointing third place, behind Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

“Iowa doesn’t have a record of picking presidents. We’re in a strong position to move forward,” Penn told a handful of reporters on board a chartered midnight flight that took Clinton staffers and such high-level supporters such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright from Des Moines, Iowa, to Manchester, N.H.

That contradicts the huge gravitas Clinton put on the Iowa caucus in her recent stump speeches, evoking the process as a democratic gift in the wake of Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s death.

It's not like we didn't see this excuse coming. They showed on CNN that Clinton also said something about Iowa not being important in picking Presidents. Which is somewhat of a white lie. I wonder how Iowans feel now? You better believe if Obama lost, he wouldn't stab Iowa in the back because of it. But this is classic Clintonism, they only want your support as long as it's beneficial to them. Afterward, they couldn't care less about you.

10. How about?
"Our campaign didn't work out as we'd hoped in Iowa, but it's on to New Hampshire."

I think that says it better than, "Nya, nya, it's not worth anything anyhow."

3. Wonder what Penn's excuse will be when they lose New Hampshire?

loss is Super Tuesday. Some of the Clinonites are already talking up Fed. 5.

8. Kucinich still on the campaign trail?
I think it's WONDERFUL that a man who couldn't snag a single delegate is chipper and upbeat today. Or didn't anyone interview him?

NH doesn't matter because our strategy has always been to start with South Carolina, i mean NY, I mean Michigan.

Looking remarkably like Republicans.

9. And broadbrushing Obama supporters, and then calling good Democrats "Republicans"...
is not vicious?

I could say "Vicious in defeat, Hillary supporters run true to form," but that's obviously not the case except in a handful of examples.

5. This was expected
I knew they were going to say something negative about the Iowa caucuses when they lost-they are getting real predictable this Clinton campaign. No, I'm not an Obama supporter. Real dumb move too IMO...what happens if HRC turns out to BE the dem nominee? You think they're going to forget what another of the surrogates says? Of course Clinton will come out and say "it's not HER view"-they are almost as bad as the Bushies with their spinning and projecting

6. I gotta agree with the Clinton folks who have chimed in here -- what did you expect?
I imagine the surrogates of Obama -- whom I support -- would have done the same. Had Obama lost Iowa, it would be David Axelrod giving the speech instead of Mark Penn, but the substance would be the same.

"You better believe if Obama lost, he wouldn't stab Iowa in the back because of it. But this is classic Clintonism, they only want your support as long as it's beneficial to them. Afterward, they couldn't care less about you."

This from a supporter of the biggest stab-in-the-back candidate in the Democratic primary and maybe in the entire Democratic party.
Keep trying to project Obama's ethics onto everybody else.

That is exactly what Obama would have said. The only difference is that nobody else would have taken the opportunity to slam the character and ethics of the candidate downplaying the loss, except for, of course, an Obama supporter.

Then why bother kissing their ass for the last 6 weeks, Hillary??

15. Hell I would too
I find it appalling that they can bus all those students in to vote, let them register with verification up to two hours before the vote. And CNN showed this morning that last night they were taking some back in busses to Illinois...I think that is horrible and a travesty of the campaign. Talk about Ann Coulter and her voter fraud..what in the hell was this.

21. She also said "People in NH can make up their own minds", as if the
people in Iowa can't. So I'm curious to see what she'll say if NH makes up its mind to go with Obama, or Edwards, over her.

18. You call that dissing?
I call it exactly what anyone would say about Iowa after not doing well there. WTF did you expect her campaign to say...that Iowa is the only state that counts, so now we're dropping out of the campaign since it's a lost cause to continue? WTF?

Says it, doesn't diss a state that the might need in the future.

how many more will there be. Makes one wonder where the brass bands are, the cheerleaders with their pom poms, the football 'heros' and the rest of the razzamatazz.

You guys might better use your 2x4s to attack Bush...seems to me he is the culprit.
