Durbin hails Obama's "historic victory", says negative attacks on him could backfire
http://www.sj-r.com/News/stories/23050.asp
A day after Democrat Barack Obama won his party’s Iowa caucuses, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin praised his colleague for a “historic victory.”

“After last night, this is for real. It’s game time,” said Durbin, who more than a year ago helped persuade the 46-year-old Chicagoan to run for president.

“Historically, these independent voters are turned off by negative advertising,” he said. “So if anyone in any other camp feels that they want to go after Barack as the front-runner, they run a real risk of turning off these independent voters in the four or five days before the election.”

I think that last point is a good one, which I why I think Hillary is making a mistake in going after Obama, and Edwards is being smart in avoiding all that.

Blind praise will be greeted with a pat on the head, otherwise, just keep quiet and don't ask questions.

Sound familar?

2. Exaggerate much?
Surely you can see the difference between asking questions or bringing up differences on the issues versus the kind of attacks Hillary has been unloading on Obama: bringing up his drug use as a youth, playing the 9/11 card, and whatever else she's got in store.

3. Negative attacks on Obama's issue positions will work.
