I think that was planned. It is possible that his advisers told him to be low-key. Perhaps they anticipated that everyone else would pile on him because he won Iowa. They wanted him to appear unruffled by attacks.
I am not sure whom to support. I think Edwards did well, and so did Obama. It was a difference in styles.

ISRAEL by Ali Abunimah March 05, 2007
Israel is "our strongest ally in the region and its only established democracy," Obama said, assuring his audience that "we must preserve our total commitment to our unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance and continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense programs." Such advanced multi-billion dollar systems he asserted, would help Israel "deter missile attacks from as far as Tehran and as close as Gaza." As if the starved, besieged and traumatized population of Gaza are about to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Obama offered not a single word of criticism of Israel, of its relentless settlement and wall construction, of the closures that make life unlivable for millions of Palestinians.
Obama has FUNDED EVERY IRAQ BILL SINCE HE ARRIVED IN THE SENATE!! OK?

39. LOL! you are a desperate little critter. Would you like to see what |
|
Edwards said in 2007? I bet you wouldn't. Let me shove it in your face:
"EDWARDS AND IRAN....Here is John Edwards two weeks ago, speaking about Iran to the Herzliya Conference in Israel:
Edwards: Let me be clear: Under no circumstances can Iran be allowed to have nuclear weapons. For years, the US hasn't done enough to deal with what I have seen as a threat from Iran.....To ensure that Iran never gets nuclear weapons, we need to keep ALL options on the table. Let me reiterate -- ALL options must remain on the table....
Question: ....Would you be prepared, if diplomacy failed, to take further action against Iran?....Secondly, you as grassroots person, who has an understanding of the American people, is there understanding of this threat across US?
Edwards: ....As to what to do, we should not take anything off the table....As to the American people, this is a difficult question. The vast majority of people are concerned about what is going on in Iraq. This will make the American people reticent toward going for Iran. But I think the American people are smart if they are told the truth, and if they trust their president. So Americans can be educated to come along with what needs to be done with Iran."
Gee, JE is soooo critical of Israel. Not. And neither is Clinton.
And the lies about Obama's record of voting on Iraq funding are deplorable. He has not voted for every funding bill, and his record on the issue mirrors the MOST liberal dems in the Senate.
I don't expect you to respond to this, but consider yourself spanked- hard.

Perhaps it was one of those instantaneous moments that you are transported back to when you were 10 years old and the other girls on the playground said that nobody likes you. I felt for her, I must say, in that moment. Her resolve returned to her and she handled it humorously, but I saw a bit of hurt just for a flash...

20. Yes, I saw that - I saw the whole debate. The part you are referring |

to was a point won by Clinton! I don't know what you think a debate is, but she won that point. She wasn't over the top or "shrill" or whatever the "catch-phrase" is that the meme requires, she was simply making a forceful point. I lean strongly toward Edwards, but this sniping at Clinton for what was actually a very good performance is just silly. I think that folks around here do not understand what a "debate" is...

26. Same here. And that "likeability" question was bullshit. |
|
I was at an Obama gathering watching the debate, and some people (mostly men) were tickled by it. But I made my feelings known and several of the women around me agreed. It was entirely unnecessary and a blatant appeal to sexism. Screw you, Charles Gibson. You have earned my everlasting hatred. Hillary IS actually quite likeable, maybe not as much as Obama, but why was SHE asked about that when none of the other candidates were? I can't believe that John McCain would win any "likeability" contests either. Why wasn't he asked about how he deals with being widely viewed as a curmudgeon?

So did Obama, although he was basically sleepwalking through it. All he needed to do was show up and not get owned, and he managed that.
