Translating belief into action; the call of the time that Obama is making |
|
has been repeatedly chopped into petty and snide parsed snippets on this board. He is not challenging the political establishment to reconciliation, he is challenging the people to take up common cause in revitalizing the nation and reclaiming our Constitution. He knows the political machineries are too firmly entrenched in their scripts to change without being deconstructed. It is up to us to change and to own our government and to insist that the needs of the people are more important than those of the machine. Politicians may wish to join, and if they can't participate they should be sent packing.
We are seeing now who will be truly willing to participate in a meaningful change and we are also seeing who will serve the machine. Right now, our local Democratic Central Committee is deconstructing and is being filled by new people for the first time in many years. I am one of them. I will be the change I want. I understand Obama's call.

2. "WE are the one we've been waiting for" |

By voting for Obama it means I not only have faith in him to lead this nation but also I have faith in myself, and in my neighbors in that we can BE agents of change in our own community.

I love it - I loved it when Howard Dean said it in 2003 and 2004 and every day since. Get involved in your community and be the agent of change

8. I'm afraid that's not very specific. Really, is an exhortation to do |
|
more enough? Will we have to rely on the faith based community or can Obama point to a government anti-poverty initiative that works?

9. What are you doing about poverty in your community? |
|
I have faith that Obama or any Democratic candidate for that matter will have a platform of policies set to combat poverty - the candidate I am supporting - Obama - has a poverty plan that includes increasing job access, making the job acquired more meaningful (meaning living wage), increase affordable housing, and tackling concentrated poverty.
More importantly - my candidate - is asking us all to tackle poverty. Poverty will not be tackled within 4 or 8 years by any of the top three candidates. America needs to come together and fight poverty.
In my own community I work with the most impovershed community in the state. I am always strategically trying to raise awareness. I am on several committees dealing with poverty and homelessness.
Is that not specific enough.
Get active. Get local.

10. Have you read Obama's legislation? I mean, read the damn thing? |
|
Awareness doesn't pay the bills. I'm here under my real name ... my work is public, though I advertise little. But for me, the best use of my time is with kids, cops & computers - cuts crime. Also eliminates poverty. In fact, it's so effective, the program is designed to eliminate itself. A community policing substation stands empty due to lack of crime ... but the shield is there which reminds me of the terrifying days I spent outside that former crack house, with providence as my protector.
But that's just me ... you're raising awareness, which is a good thing, I'm sure.
HRC has worked with others, as I must do, to pass meaningful legislation like respite for caregivers ... something I could have used with my ailing parents. Shit ... well, it'll help someone else. Oh yeah, she wants to expand pre-K, which could have helped me socialize, but hey ... better now than never.
Obama? I read his bill. It calls on the president to develop a strategy.
