Out & about in NH today... EVERYONE is talking politics.
Ive never seen anything like it in my life. At our Sunday breakfast spot the entire place was debating last nights debate. At the grocery store, the gas station, our local sandwich shop, and even walking down the street in town. I was hard pressed to find anyone chatting about anything other than politics. Its unreal. If its any indication of the rest of the state I predict a record turnout on Tuesday.

If nothing else... this election finally has people paying attention. Tomorrow hubby and I will try to see everyone rallying in our area. Looking forward to comparing the vibes on primary-eve.

4. Everyone!
And the people are crazy. There was almost a fight at the gas station between two older men. One Hillary was strong in last nights debate, one Hillary came unhinged. At breakfast it was Obama & Edwards vs Clinton. Some guy stands up and tells us anyone who isnt voting for Richardson is an idiot. Good and bad things being said about everyone. Its completely nuts.

6. Lots of chatter about last nights debate.
Mostly Hillary getting upset. People literally fighting over whether her performance was good or bad. Some people mad the Edwards and Obama would pick on a woman. Basically, it was like putting DU in a room and letting us all have at it.

My feeling doesnt line up with the polls based on what I heard today. I'd put the top three on a very close level. Too close to call.

5. The weather on Tuesday is going to be in the 50's and partly sunny.
That means GIANT turnout. The Obama people are really working it - 2 calls today alone. A visit to our house-in-the-sticks yesterday by campaign workers. Lots of signs. A big win is in the air.

8. I dont have a land line anymore so I havent gotten any calls...
But I did have an Edwards canvasser here last night. He dropped on an 80 page booklet outlining Johns positions on the issues. Both the Obama and Edwards camps have really gone full tilt in trying to win this state. So impressive.

I'm trying to be all calm but reading your post blew that out and the emotion in :)

It's really gonna be warm(55 degrees) here in upper state New York, too, and we'll be hangin' until the results come in..

12. Very unusual.
Ive never seen so many people be so involved in the primaries. People seem impressed with both Edwards and Obama... the big debate was over Hillarys debate performance. Clinton and Richardson have some serious hard-core supporters. Lots of people still deciding between Edwards and Obama.

20. You know, that may be the one, the ONLY positive thing to come out of the
last 8 miserable years: many more people realize that who they (attempt) to put in the White House REALLY DOES MATTER, and will get involved in the political process whereas they wouldn't necessarily before.
Finally...Chimpo is a 'uniter', not a 'divider'; the whole country is united against him and his junta/Party.:hi:

13. This is how it is in Europe.. people talk/argue/debate politics and issues
all the time. In smaller towns and smaller progressive states like NH, these kinds of exchanges are still possible. This just brings my heart such JOY to hear and thank you for making my day ! A hearty round of applause for the people of NH. I spent only one weekend there, several years ago.. it was cold and snowy with a January full moon.. and it was an unforgettable experience. Keep us posted !

I was at the local store and there were at least three knots of locals rapping on about politics. The weather looks great for Tuesday, temps near 50F and nothing falling out of the sky. So aye-up, should be a record breaking turn out.

Yes.

27. Yes it is, bunnies. I can't wait.
I love going to our tiny town hall and voting. We have a ballot box that's over a hundred years old. Think of all the history that has gone through that thing and the names - Roosevelt, Kennedy, Truman, Eisenhower, Mondale, Stevenson and more.

This is what it's about; ordinary people making extraordinary decisions.

17. The buzz is about the war, the economy and healthcare... believe me,
and take it to the bank...that's it up here...nobody is swooning for "hope" or "change" or "experience"...they want results...they want us out of Iraq, they want to be able to put a paycheck in a savings account and they want healthy, well educated children. Is this too much to ask from the assholes who run this country or the ones who want to. Damn, I'm so pissed at some of the crap I've read on here today...maybe I'll vote for Huckabee...maybe he's what we deserve.

not one visit from a Clinton volunteer, which is interesting.

Anyhow, seems to be MUCH more ground organization than four years ago here.

32. No, I think a lot of Repubs are going to jump ship
especially the ole timey fifth generation and more types. I have the impression they feel very betrayed by the Gingrich/Rove courting of the south and fundie gang and the total lack of support and money during the 06 election. New England used to be the backbone of the Republican Party and it's been marginalized. It's resented which is one of the reasons NE is turning blue.

The ones who stay onboard will probably go with McCain; he's the closest thing they have to a protest vote. Romney is so obviously an establishment/corporate made man and they see right through Huckabee's bs. Plus, he said the "T" word; that's a death sentence in NH. Rudy and Fred won't get the time of day.

FWIW

35. Report from the wilds of NH.
Just returned from the polls. The folks there said people were lined up at the door when they opened the place at 8. Also said greater than usual numbers coming in. The town south of here has its polling place in the elementary school. The school was cancelled because the numbers expected.

Whatever else happens records will crash and burn all over this state today.

Yes.
