Did we really want a coronation? |
|
We've had a caucus and a primary. Two small states. From the vitriol being hurled around on this site there seems to be an attitude among some that these two states should somehow decide it all. We all want resolutions of course. THe anticipation is nerve wracking. But would having this resolved today really be such a good thing?
Didn't that pretty much happen last time around? Two wins for Kerry and it was a done deal. It does not seem to have been the best possible outcome for the Democrats. We have 3 excellent top tier candidates and the rest of them are pretty good, too.
Not having a clear front runner (and I know some would disagree - "It's Hillary!" or "It's Obama!") is a good thing for the voters and for the party as a whole. These declarations of inevitability are partly the fault of the media but it is also the fault of the voters who hang on every poll as some sort of proof that their candidate will prevail. Hopefully, we can proceed from here on out with a dose of healthy cynicism.
I like Hillary. I like Obama. I like John Edwards. I like it that I have another month before I will feel obligated to slap a bumper sticker on my car. I like that I will get to vote and maybe feel like it matters. And I really like it that I still have a couple of weeks to make up my mind.
2 down, 48 to go. Breathe.

2. Although i think the DNC might have other ideas |
|
I think they want this wrapped up way before the convention because they need to get the election campaign going. They will force someones hand brutally sooner rather than later. Thats how these guys work.
I'd be suprised if they dont force a winner by 6th Feb. You know they will.

3. No. We this is good for the party. I support Clinton, but the tight race |
|
means a discussion on policies, and more humbled, less arrogant candidates that will hopefully work for US.

are a lot of people who aren't as plugged in politically as the members of DU are. I can remember a time when I barely paid attention until I had to vote in the primaries and even then I didn't go in with a whole lot of information about the candidates. Maybe this "time out" will give those people some time to enter into the political process.
Making things interesting with a lack of resolution might get more people interested. One can hope.

5. Mz Pip, you are absolutely correct... |
|
That's why I got a little smile out of Hillary's win yesterday, even though she's my least favorite candidate. No coronations, no anointings, just a close election all the way to the end. That's the way it should be.

7. Hear, hear. I'm an Obama fan. And a tough race is what whoever we nominate needs for the general. |

2 down. 48 to go. And I don't think we'll see a decision on Super Tuesday. This is going to the convention.
