Clinton the racist? Damning photographic evidence and article
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 10:28 PM by Proud2BAmurkin

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/29/health/29clinton.html

Since he left office more than five years ago at age 54, one of the youngest former presidents ever, Mr. Clinton has made a lasting mark in a cause that he came to only late in his presidency: fighting the AIDS pandemic across Africa and the world.

Few public figures in America have spawned as much speculation about what motivates them as Mr. Clinton. Abroad, even fewer inspire the affectionate reception Mr. Clinton received as he raced across seven African countries in eight days in July. Crowds at roadsides and in hospitals wanted to touch him — and he obliged by shaking hands, kissing babies and hugging people with AIDS.

are calling the Clintons racists. I haven't seen anyone calling them racists. I think it's Clinton supporters that perpetuating the claim.

28. Very right-wing at that!
In America, few people heard anything about this. Clinton's dire public warnings about the threat posed by terrorism, and the massive non-secret actions taken to thwart it, went completely unreported by the media, which was far more concerned with stained dresses and baseless Drudge Report rumors. When the administration did act militarily against bin Laden and his terrorist network, the actions were dismissed by partisans within the media and Congress as scandalous "wag the dog" tactics. The TV networks actually broadcast clips of the movie "Wag The Dog" to accentuate the idea that everything the administration was doing was contrived fakery.

The bombing of the Sundanese factory at al-Shifa, in particular, drew wide condemnation from these quarters, despite the fact that the CIA found and certified VX nerve agent precursor in the ground outside the factory, despite the fact that the factory was owned by Osama bin Laden's Military Industrial Corporation, and despite the fact that the manager of the factory lived in bin Laden's villa in Khartoum. The book "Age of Sacred Terror" quantifies the al-Shifa issue thusly: "The dismissal of the al-Shifa attack as a scandalous blunder had serious consequences, including the failure of the public to comprehend the nature of the al Qaeda threat."

to be more precise, the Al-Shifa plant in Khartoum, on the claim that it was manufacturing WMDs. Then Clinton goes on TV and repeats almost verbatim a line from the film The American President, in which he worries loudly about any janitors working the night shift. What a crock!

That it was "wag the dog" and known to be ONLY an "aspirin factory" are rightwing talking points.

And, this goes to show how much caution has to be involved when bombing suspected terrorist targets, especially in a country like Pakistan.

55. I didn't mention that he also bombed Pakistan and Afghanistan on the same day
but he had allowed bin Laden to leave the Sudan earlier, when he was more available to be captured. Or that in Yugoslavia he used Al-Qaeda trained Chechen fighters to bolster the Kosovo Liberation Army. Or that he refused to close down the torture school at Fort Benning then known as the School of the Americas. He merely changed the name of the school, but kept the mission, and put Wes Clark in charge to make it look good.

Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 10:25 PM by IndianaGreen
Sudanese television showed piles of rubble at the factory and fire raging in the distance. People were seen walking through the damage, wearing masks.

Sudanese officials reacted angrily to the attacks. Interior Minister Abdul Rahim told CNN in a telephone interview that the privately owned pharmaceutical firm had "nothing to do with chemical weapons."

"We have no chemical weapons factory in our country," he said.

A statement read on Sudanese television about an hour after the attack said, "The wrongful American air force launched air attacks on Sudan tonight which aimed at strategic and vital areas." There was no report as to the number of casualties.

It was an intelligence screw up, plain and simple. At the same time he also bombed a Bin Ladin training camp in Afghanistan. The right wing pundits said it was a move meant to district, when in reality it was just keeping up with the job of being president.

or you were being sarcastic, and I'm a fool for not getting it.

But other black Clinton supporters found themselves wincing at the Clintons’ words, if not questioning their intent.

A Harlem-based consultant to the Clinton campaign, Bill Lynch, called the former president’s comments “a mistake” and said his own phone had been ringing with friends around the country voicing their concern.

“I’ve been concerned about some of those comments — and that there might be a backlash,” he said.
