Clinton surrogates discourage black voters
If you're wondering why someone would interpret "it's all just a fairy tale" as a slam against a black fantasy candidate... it probably has to do with remarks like these coming from Hillary's endorsers. It's not her fault they're saying this stuff, necessarily, but it is Bill's when he uses language like that when he knows this is the message being sent to black voters.

"Two prominent black Alabama Democrats say they won't support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for president because they don't feel he can be elected."

"We cannot lose sight that we have to beat the Republicans," said Reed, who has close ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Holmes said Republicans would like to run against Obama because they know he can't win.

"This is the biggest Republican trap ever," said Holmes. "I'm one black leader who is not going to fall into that trap."

1. Yeah, it's doggy-whistling of the worst kind
It's Bill channeling the worst of the racists from the 1960's to encourage whites and to attack Blacks who actually work to make a difference.

17. The "fairy tale" remark was taken out of context
How could Bill have intended to send a signal by saying one thing that afterward is quoted out of context and twisted and then lands somewhere where the receiver follows his instructions to say Obama can't win because he's black?

There is no dog whistle. Just the same sleazy attacks on the Clintons.

8. A woman can't win, don't vote for Hillary
Are there women on Obama's campaign making that argument?

18. This isn't from the campaign
Its from some supporter. If an Obama supporter said Hillary couldn't win because she's a woman I wouldn't blame Obama or his campaign. If an Obama supporter says she ought to be scrubbing floors or she's angry because she's not getting any, I won't blame Obama or his campaign.

I don't think that would even be reported though. There seems to be a new fad for reporters. Call up Clinton supporters and ask them about race and report anything that could be inflammatory.

We are being divided over stupid stuff.

11. It's an attempt to explain the interpretation, that's all
So that people who want to understand, can.

Bill went on a rant about the vote. Obama has built his campaign on that vote. He hasn't been questioned about that vote.

And then he says the whole thing is a fairy tale. It sounds like he means the whole campaign is a fairy tale, the whole basis of the campaign (Iraq) is a fairy tale.

But to people who have been being told that a black man can't win, day after day, it could sound quite a bit different.

In THIS thread, that's all I'm saying.

13. Yes, I heard the entire rant and I know what WJC said.
He didn't say Obama's candidacy was a "fairy tale." He said his position on the Iraq War debacle was. Very, very different.

Hmmm...why do I get the feeling that the Reich Wing is ratcheting up this nonsense to discourage black voters?

Go Edwards.Go Obama. Go Hillary. But above all, GO DEMS!
