Michigan Primary - Unbelievable Story on KNBC - LA affiliate |
|
The story was that Hillary has such a commanding lead that Obama and Edwards pulled their names from the ballot!
Congrats, media and stupidity wins again!
And we wonder why things are so messed up.

1. Is there a link to that? The DNC should step up immediately and call them on that |
|
This is a blatant story to mislead

2. If it's true, it's not the first time it's been done. |
|
Everybody pulled out of the Illinois primary in '72 because Muskie had it locked up, thus allowing the rest to say "didn't count". Same with Harkin in Iowa in '92. Same with Simon in Illinois in '92 as well, IIRC.

12. I know the battle about those primaries has been going on for months. |
|
I meant if it's true that Obama and Edwards have withdrawn from the Michigan ballot.
Chill, dude.

I would have expected you, of all people, would know this.
Ack, it's not you. Too many people saying "if it's true" about way too much plain as day shit lately.

18. Obama and Edwards taking their names off the ballot happened months ago? |
|
Again, I thought this was a new story, and I still don't know why you're jumping down my throat about it.
In any case, if an all HRC Michigan delegation shows up at Denver, I assume the Credentials Committee will boot their asses out the door.

25. I'm not sure - it may look different in the summer |
|
If HRC wins, even without the count from FL and MI, where the others complied by taking their names off and she didn't, they will likely let them in. If Obama wins, they might be magnanimous as it affects nothing. The real problem is if the states without FL and MI, give a majority to Obama and adding these two - all for Clinton - gives Clinton the majority of the higher total. That would be a nightmare.
Of course, there is the momentum aspect now - where this might be used as we get close to super Tuesday to make Clinton look better, especially if Obama wins SC and NV. Then instead of it being that Obama had a heathy win in Iowa and two other wins versus a narrow loss, it becomes HRC won NH, MI, and FL vs Obama winning Iowa, SC and NV - they're equal - and that is the best case scenario for Obama.

15. So you are saying it is true |
|
Because HRC had it locked up and not because of the agreement that states would not schedule primaries based upon the agreement?

Get off my case, dude. I'm just pointing out past examples of what appears to be happening here. And if this was about honoring the "no early primaries" pledge, wouldn't HRC have taken her name of the ballot as well?
I was under the impression from the thread intro that the Obama/Edwards withdrawal story was a new one. I don't know why you're lashing out at me about it. I'm not part of anybody's conspiracy about it one way or the other. Again, chill, willya?

21. Dennis tried to pull his name off the ballot but wasn't able to. |
|
And, given that Michigan ended up holding its vote AFTER Iowa and New Hampshire, is there any good reason to still be punishing them?
Doesn't Beltway Tuesday get enough importance even without this?

24. but that's not what happened here |
|
The others backed out because the DNC said it would not accept delegates from this primary because it was too early.
Obama and Edwards complied with Dean's request, HRC didn't.

Where did it come from? I know Hillary and Dennis are the only ones on the ballot but that's as close as they are to the truth.

Why do you think that Clinton just happened not to take her name off MI and FL? clerical oversight?
This was an impossible situation that was created when Levin and other MI Democrats and Dean were equally stubborn. They had the ability to set the primary and Dean had the ability to say that he would not honor it. The problem is that it was obvious that the winner would get press and that there will be a downstream problem where it will likely be decided that MI and FL cannot be excluded from the convention. So, how do you think the delegates will be selected? A second primary or by the one the party already had?
Obama and Edwards are likely to be hurt by following the request of the DNC and HRC will likely gain and suffer no consequence of having bucked Dean's request. I admire much of what Dean has done - but not the way he dealt with this mess.
