Yeah, she only kissed Bush's imperial ass, but let's fry Obama for stating the bloody obvious? Many people, do concur that Reagan was *a great communicator,* not all that unlike YOUR HERO, Bill Clinton.
Can we say "hypocritically grasping at straws."
Yes, I thought we could. ;)

Obama goes on the 700 club and supports a woman's right to choose with the caveat that"he hope's they would make a prayerful decision",but that's OK,because we need those voters. Obama explains away a gay basher on his gospel tour, but that's OK,because we need those voters. Obama repeats a sanitized version on Ronald Reagan, but that's OK because we need those voters.
Obama may go down in history as the first Democratic nominee in a Democratic primary to run on a platform of getting rid of those pesky, old fashioned Democrats.

7. It does seem as if Obama is resurrecting Reagan. |
|
He is possibly trying to bring over some Republicans, but is losing some progressives by doing so. I am puzzled by it since I don't recall Reagan being the hero that the right makes him out to be. He sure made a mess of things and Bill Clinton cleaned it up in my opinion. In any case, I never thought I would hear praise of Reagan coming out of the mouth of a Dem.

that Obama committed a cardinal sin by damning Reagan with faint praise.
I don't have Lexus/Nexus, but I am guessing that we could find praise for Reagan from all of our Democratic contenders. Not to mention we could probably find them all praising the Shrubya too.
They are politicians. It's their nature. After all, there might be some voter somewhere who thinks good ol' Ronnie Raygun was the bestest president EVER and why piss that voter off?
Especially for a guy who is dead and can't do anyone any harm anymore... why be caught pissing on his grave? It won't mean anything to the dead guy and will only make you look bad to passers by.

How would I know what Obama is referring to when you snip a single sentence from a speech.
Let's see, excesses, 1960's and 1970's - drug culture perhaps? certainly was excessive!
related to government - maybe the military industrial complex? Yup, that had a certain lack of accountability... still does. And lots and lots of excess.
social welfare programs? - I don't know, he might have even been thinking about this. It was certainly different then. The government was running around building "projects" for the poor to live in... usually in these big, Soviet style blockhouse things. With nothing to provide the residents a real sense of ownership or pride. Mostly gone now. Big waste of taxpayer dollars. Eyesores.
Not much accountability as in "does anyone LIKE this crap we are spending all this money on?"
I don't know, I give up.
There were certainly excesses within the government and without, and no accountability.
Or was everything really hunky dory back then? (uh... I lived through the time period mentioned, so, in my opinion, no, 60's and 70's were not a golden age of progressive government in the United States)
Did you think that this is some sort of "gotcha"?

32. In the flame bait thread that was posted |
|
where a few lines were extracted from an interview? that Obama gave (when?), he specifically states that he did not agree with many of Reagan's policies. So, these days saying that you don't agree with MANY of X's policies is the same as "Endorsing A Person's Politics"???
Really?
and if YOUR candidate offer praise for Reagan, it must be "ceremonial", but if the other candidate offers praise (even the faint praise of the quoted passage) it's "Endorsing a Person's Politics".
All I can say is wow. The lengths you folks will go to and the hypocrisy you engage in in order to trash someone else while believing that your candidate is super orthodox and never engages in anything like swiftboating or dirty repuke tactics is simply beyond me.
I was sitting on the fence after Biden dropped out, but the slime that been hurled at Obama in the last week or so (face it, since he won in Iowa) has pushed me into his camp. Big time.

I was in the active duty Army during "The Reagan Era." I hated his policies but, unlike Lord Pissy Pants, *Saint* Ronnie <tongue-in-cheek> has a personal magnanimity that reached out to hard-core republicans NOT ALL THAT UNLIKE the continued rock-star status that some die-hard fans think of Bill Clinton. I could NOT force myself to "dislike the man" but his policies were nothing less than *poison* and his minions ran the show. :(
Let's dispense with political royalty? Reagan is dead and "big dawg" Bill Clinton is essentially neutered because the economy is soon to go into a tail spin.

Here: http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080115/VIDEO/80115026&oaso=news.rgj.com/breakingnewsOr are you basing your judgment of what Obama said on the short clip going around? 33. I would have been able to stomach those Obama comments on Reagan better |
|
if he'd been a bit more straightforward and said something like:
"Reagan was very good at telling selfish, self-centered Americans what they wanted to hear after years of scary social upheaval followed by years of political malfeasance and economic doom and gloom: namely, that if there were problems with their beloved country, they could all be blamed on people other than themselves--either for being too gloomy and pessimistic, too irresponsible and undisciplined, or just plain too poor. He was very successful at selling that message to a lot of people--even Democrats. I'd like to be just as successful at selling my message to everyone, including Republicans...even though personally, I think Reagan's policies blew chunks."
