Serious question: What does your candidate intend to do about the homeless?
I like joking around and dissing war pigs as much as anyone, but if we can be serious and respectful for one thread:
What do you expect your candidate will do to address and (I hope) resolve the problem of homelessness? Due to the multiple factors of subprime foreclosures and returning vets(if theyre that lucky), we can expect homelessness to increase dramatically, immediately. One point to note, Persian Gulf vets are just entering the homeless demographic in larger numbers after years of drifting in that direction. So, like I said this is a serious problem, and its going to get much worse quickly. What do you expect the candidate you support to do about it?
Thanks!

1. Increase in federal VA dollars
Bush has been slashing the Dept. of Veterans Affairs since he got into office. I would hope that we see an increase in federal dollars to local governments for housing, psychological counseling and job training.

2. from which candidate?
I just havent been paying much attention to each camps statements on the issue. I know theyve all been invited to a debate hosted by the National Homelessness Radio Marathon, but that may have been cancelled due to lack of response?

4. I think Im gonna vote for your guy
Wow. I come back three hours later to one additional reply and I have to kick this off the 3rd page?
Posting a similar but more general question in GD got 15 responses and stays up front. Maybe nobody has anything to say?

Well, I hope everyone takes the time to read the posts in the GD thread, theyre worth a look.
And if anyone has something to add about their candidates position, please chime in here!
Thanks

5. No Edwards supporters care to chime in?
I guess I can look up his statements on the subject.
Are we all just too busy with important stuff to bother?

6. He's the only one of the Big 3 mentioning them and has a plan to end poverty
But I am not aware of any detailed plan or statement he has made on it. Since he talks about it presumably he must have something on it. It may fall into his overall poverty fighting plan.

8. Not true. In fact, Hillary has been attempting to fight homelessness for a long time.

And today, Hillary's plan reads as follows:

Reduce Homelessness among Veterans.

In 2006, nearly 200,000 veterans were homeless on any given night. Hillary will establish a pilot program on homelessness prevention for veterans that will provide subsidies, eviction prevention, and one-time assistance for veterans who fall behind on their rent. She will also expand rental assistance for veterans by calling on Congress to fund an additional 20,000 housing choice vouchers exclusively for homeless veterans.

9. exclusively for veterans?
What is that, a recruitment tactic?

please forgive me the one little jibe.

What does she offer the homeless population in general?
Thank you very much for your contribution.

10. Any plan that seriously addresses homelessness has to address families.
The fastest growing demographic is single mothers with children.

11. Not hardly a recruitment tactic. Hillary has been fighting homelessness for quite some time.
The causes of homelessness are varied, painful, complicated, and deep.

Starting with a severe lack of affordable housing for low-income workers, Hillary has worked hard to sponser bills in the Senate to being needed help for the poor.

http://www.nlihc.org/doc/NHTF-side-by-side-Sen-House.pdf

She clashed heads in 1999 with the mayor of NY that was attempting to criminalize homelessness by arresting a huge number of the homeless in New York City, expressing her totaly outrage over this. Because of this issues she was instremental in bringing financial relief for a lagre number of the homeless there.

From increasing the minimum wage to creating affordable helath coverage, good jobs, higher education and PK education, I could write for the rest of the day as to how Hillary is earnestly working on these issues.
