Unhelpful remarks from Obama supporter
http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/1/23/181832/425

"This is bad:
In an interview with CNN's Jessica Yellin, Dick Harpootlian, a former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and a supporter of Barack Obama, said some of Bill Clinton's recent remarks on the campaign trail were appeals based on race and gender. He said the comments were meant to "suppresses the vote, demoralize voters, and distort the record," and said they were "reminiscent of Lee Atwater."
Outrageous and false. And, from Obama's perspective, not helpful to his campaign. Consider this, the LAST thing Obama wants is for his big win next Saturday to be viewed as a race issue. Harpootlian feeds that narrative with his outrageous smear. Obama himself strenuously denied that the Clinton campaign was playing race or gender games last week. Harpootlian does no one any favors with this outrageous smear. The Obama campaign should disavow them".

5. The whole "race card" thing is what is going to create the backlash
People resent and do not like being called racist for disagreeing with Obama.
They resent it..and Obama will learn how much they resent it as soon as he leaves SC.

21. That's baloney!
Either you never saw Lee Atwater at work (Willie Horton) or you do not correctly remember how bad he was. The Clintons did not say one WORD that could be considered racist. To say that what they did NOT say is equal to what Atwater often DID say, is to go way beyond incorrect, into the territory of absolute delusion.

11. I saw that segment with Bill CLinton. Even recorded it cause from
what wolf blitzer was saying clinton "lasheds out", Clinton "hammered home" and if this was going to be like the one of Clinton and the reporter from a week was, I knew I had to record it.......Boy was I disappointed. Not by Clinton but by Wolf Blitzer using flamable words just to hype his piece.....Bill CLinton was exactly right in what he said and he spoke as if he was having a normal conversation with the reporter from cnn and those other networks that were there. What they got from Bill was the truth about the press and the obama folks....

but not once in the panel discussion did either 3 or wolf come to the defense of Bill when Harpootlian accused clinton of basically being a racist, and one thing for damn sure Bill Clinton is no racist....but the mediawhores would rather spin for obama and be anti hrc.....

17. You know what, I remember Lee Atwater. Lee Atwater was NOT a friend of mine.....
....comparing Bill Clinton to Lee Atwater is cause for the deepest curse I can think of bringing down on whoever dared to make that repulsive comparison....

Google Lee Atwater and see how he turned out.

Saying the Clintons remind some of Lee Atwater is a freaking compliment.

20. This is despicable
Comparing Clinton to Lee Atwater is like saying Bill Clinton is a Republican.

Yes, yes, I know some right here on DU have actually said the Clintons are the "same as Republicans," which is nonsense.

Obama should strongly repudiate Harpootlian's comments for his own good, even if he can't see how slimy they are.
