Newspaper headline: "Them Colored People Are Thinking for Themselves!" |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 07:50 PM by EffieBlack
Well - not in so many words. The actual headline in yesterday's Baltimore Sun was "Obama, Clinton Divide Blacks" - just as ignorant and offensive.
I think most people would find a headline that read "Clinton, Edwards Divide Whites" to be ridiculous - and unnecessary, since no one expects all white people to vote en masse for one candidate.
Yet, the media - and many others - seem to have no problem with stupid headlines such as that appearing in the Baltimore Sun, which reveals the continued acceptance of certain stereotypes about black Americans.
As Charlie Rangel said the other day, African Americans are just like all other Americans. We take our votes seriously and are discerning, careful and thoughtful in our choice of candidates. So it's time to stop with the stupid and - yes - bigoted headlines that treat black people thinking for themselves as an actual news event.

3. Less lemming, more discerning. A great way for ANYONE to |

vote. This isn't a fashion show though some would disagree. This is about NOT REPEATING the past. We don't want to have fooled again tattooed across our foreheads, now do we?

4. It says something about this country that Charlie Rangel would have to make such a statement |
|
Take the campaign context away and adjust a little and the sentence becomes: We are discerning, careful and thoughtful in our choices in life. And who would we be speaking of?

5. BHO does not want this to be a victory in south carolina to be- |

come a black victory. He knows the press are going to have a field day saturday when they break down who voted.....It is pretty pbvious a vast majority of blacks will be out there voting for obama.that is good but obama is going to win south carolina but will lose the nomination.....
His ego playing the race card has backfired on his ass and he knows it and if I were obama after i won on saturday i would drop out of the race and save himself the embarassment of defeat.....

I think he would have gotten this level of support regardless of what's transpired over the past couple of weeks. But you also can't discount the advantage of momentum. Especially if that momentum is fueled by a HUGE win.
No candidate has won a state by double-digits yet, that could change Saturday. I think any predictions on what would happen after that are premature because we don't know what the breakdown will be. As we've seen in New Hampshire, polls can be wrong.
