Suckers
An election entirely on electronic paperless touch-screen consoles.

In 2007, after all that we have learned about black-box voting.

And you will greet or bewail or spin the results as though you have any idea whether they are real.

A little context would go a long way towards making a point.

8. Russian TV: "Doubts over voting machines cloud Obama's S.Carolina win"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X6aUyeJo24

In the U.S. presidential race, Barack Obama has won a big victory in South Carolina's Democratic primary. With huge support among black voters, Obama won twice as many votes as runner-up Hillary Clinton. While the results are not in doubt, come critics complain about the way votes are counted. They say the U.S. continues to use inaccurate and unreliable voting machines.

There really is no doubt Obama won South Carolina, and that's not the point.

As with Clinton in NH, the count is done by machines that are programmable - and therefore susceptible to human error and, more importantly, human corruption. In NH, the paper was badly secured. In SC, there isn't even a paper trail. We should never have to speculate. Only automatic hand-counts of secure paper ballots can assure that there is no cheating by machine.

What a joke that, given our experiences with elections stolen by the retail method in the recent past, we are not constantly up in arms to demand that the potential for wholesale fraud by machine be banished.

Let's fix this at least, before we fight the real battle to finally establish democracy through public campaign finance, automatic media time for candidates, and proportional representation.
