Here's my deal: It's classless to jet off to the next state and not say anything to your supporters
We can quibble all day about whether or not that was a "concession speech" that Hillary gave in TN. I don't really care what you call it. But the fact is that she gave it in TN and not in SC. And, as a long-time activist who has spent her share of pounding the pavement for my candidates, not sticking around for one extra speech in order to acknowledge the efforts of her grassroots folks who worked for her just sort of sticks in my craw. That's all.

Of her supporters waiting at a hall that was rented for her to speak afterwards, and she never showed.

8. My philosophy has always been that the volunteers get treated like royalty.
Literally, you have NO campaign without the people that show up to do the work. When they came to phone bank they got good food, when they went out to go door to door they got donuts and coffee at the HQ first. Literally, I kept a few small gift wrapped "presents" in my car for hostess gifts and what-not...

Yeah, it did take some time to do, but the result was that I always had a group of people that felt good about working for the campaign and were always there for us. They felt appreciated and (more important) they felt invested in the campaign--they were PART of it.

I realize a county wide campaign is not anywhere NEAR the logistical nightmare that a national one is, but the philosophy is the same. You have NO campaign without your ground troops. I'm sorry that realization has fallen by the wayside at the "higher" levels.

I am not bashing Hil or Obama in particular, I am just saying that none of us are able to accomplish much of anything without the folks who work our campaigns. It is important to maintain those relationships, and it is a smart organization that works to invest people in that common goal...

Peace.

50. the "base" is not "sick of them" Bill Clinton did great things for our country
And Hillary Clinton is an awesome Senator who has made a huge difference in the lives of many.

It is simply amazing to me that people are so filled with hatred that they attack everything, twist everything negative and then just rail. I have never seen anything like it. It is...almost....manic....

"People of the United States want new leaders"--then why do you support someone who has those very exactly identical stances as Clinton, except without the means to achieve them? Then why do you support someone who uses the entrenched Washington insiders as his campaign team? Then why do you use someone who so eaisly uses his race to divide us?

YOu don't want the same old thing and yet you are doing the same old thing that happened in the last election. Voting for someone you want to have a beer with.

58. So, let me get this straight. No one else wants power. Everyone else
is running for President for a different reason that they want to be the President? If that is the case then why did Obama run?

He is new to the Senate, with little experience? If it is not about power, why not wait and gain the ability to make significant changes?

I am tired of that old lie: Clintons want power. That is just so superficial.

72. Some people run for office to accomplish goals, like their campaign promises.
In '92 Bill promised to give the middle class a tax cut and health care reform.

He became the first President in history to break a campaign promise, the middle class tax cut, before taking the oath of office. He did so in a statement that had all the sincerity of a student who says, "The dog ate my homework." In fact, he lowered the tax rate for the very richest Americans.

Health care reform died when St. Hillary was put in charge of it. Now she wants the nomination on the same old stale promises, a middle class tax rebate and mandating that we all buy health insurance. What a great solution! Just pass a law requiring that we all buy health insurance.

:puke::hangover: :puke::hangover::puke::hangover: :puke::hangover::puke::hangover: :puke::hangover::puke::hangover: :puke::hangover:

It is very stale. Billary had 8 years to get the job done, and they squandered the chance.

Enough already!

You need to ask an Obama supporter your other questions.

What is superficial here?

It is the Clinton's.

Clinton did wonders in office with a Republican congress. Do you not remember those days? He was hounded by the neo-cons and republicans and attacked (kinda like you are doing to Hillary Clinton) non-stop. Dehumanized and attacked daily and he still did wonders for America.

Your suggestion that she is in it for power THE EVIL BITCH and everyone else wants to make changes to the world...is so full of crap I can hardly stand it.

85. We got the Republican Congress for 6 years because of the Clinton's.
NAFTA and welfare reform were Republican initiatives.

If Clinton actually pushed a Democratic agenda, he would have led the party to victory in Congress.

That simply wasn't important to him.

He didn't want to be a Harry Truman.

He liked Republicans too much. That's why he hired Dick Morris and David Gergen, and embraced "Republican lite" as his personal brand name.

The impeachment was his own doing and a distraction to any kind of serious legislative initiative. He lied under oath and got caught. His political opponents exploited his error to try to score political points. That was a self-inflicted wound.

Had he resigned before the 2000 election, Gore would have run as an incumbent President running on peace and prosperity. Gore would have won with a margin too big to be stolen, but that would have required a sacrifice and a selflessness that Clinton never had. The team always came second. Bill always came first.

True, the economy was better under Clinton than it was or is under the Bushes, but that is bad standard of comparison. The present health care crisis grew worse because of NAFTA and MFN for China.

As JFK said, "We can do better."

We can do better than the Clinton's.

Candidates who want to change things fail because of the obscene amount of money needed to run and the hostility of the corporately controlled MSM.

Yeah, and nice language too. Try making your points without the potty mouth.

95. bullshit. How quickly you forget.
The first act Clinton did once in office was to try to get gays in the military, despite the republican congress who (kinda like now) refused to do anything that would give Clinton a win. Then they tried universal healthcare...and fought their asses off. And because they won the election--they were continually attacked, seriously about everything, (kinda like Hillary Clinton now) and still Clinton worked his ass off.

And of course with the constant attacks and media backing and the "liberal" label, they still cleaned up the econemy--with no help from the republicans who only wanted to attack. Remember when Clinton tried to get Bin Laden and they all attacked him about "wagging the dog?"

They saved the world from WWII after the USSR broke up with the least possible carnage. Without the support of the republicans who did nothing but trash them constantly.

Then THE CLINTONS, hated by now for their GAY AND HEALTH CARE LOVING WAYS sent troops to Haiti. Oxy Rush had a field day with that.

And then, after spending billions attacking and investigating Clinton, all they came up with is a blow job...but that did not stop them from trying to impeach him.

I disagree with your world view and your blaiming Clinton for everything as if you have no memory of what actually occurred.

Clinton was awesome. Despite the media propaganda machine, despite the congress who refused to do anything.

101. "Awesome" Presidents accomplish their legislative goals and don't hire GOP advisors.
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 12:58 PM by Hart2008
The Soviet Union collapsed when Bush, the elder, was President:

On December 25, 1991, Gorbachev, yielding to the inevitable, resigned as president of the USSR, declaring the office extinct and ceding all the powers still vested in it to the president of Russia: Yeltsin. On the night of that same day, the Soviet flag was lowered for the last time over the Kremlin. Finally, a day later on December 26, 1991, the Supreme Soviet recognized the extinction of the Union and dissolved itself. By December 31, 1991, all official Soviet institutions had ceased operations as individual republics assumed the central government's role. The dissolution of the Soviet Union also ended the longtime Cold War.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collapse_of_the_Soviet_Union#Dissolution_of_the_USSR

But, hey, why let the facts get in the way of your opinion of those facts right?

Bush does the same thing.

I don't think Jimmy Carter was happy with Bill for giving Monica Lewinsky that corsage on her dress.

Remember Jimmy Carter?

He was the President who said he would never lie to us!

Now if Bill had followed that advice, he wouldn't have had that problem. I'm sure President Carter told Bill that, and now Bill prefers the company of Bush, Sr.

To quote Master Yoda, "Do, or do not. There is no try."

When it comes to health care reform and that middle class tax cut, Bill did not.

Edit to add: Can't you express yourself without the bad language?
It is very immature.

108. Harry S. Truman said "The buck stops here." You are passing the buck!
You can go argue with Harry Truman. Some things are timeless.

Carter had the same sign on his desk, and he would have been re-elected if not for the "October surprise" masterminded by Bush, Sr., to cut a deal with the Iranians to keep the hostages until after Reagan was inaugurated. Carter was humiliated and lost the election, and the myth of Reagan as John Wayne was born.

When we finally got a nominal Democrat in the White House, Clinton killed the investigation into that skulduggery, and Iran-Contra. Now Clinton and the Bushes are buddy-buddy.

It makes me sick.

70. Because it's becoming apparent that the essential thing is the hate.
Despite Obama's win in South Carolina, Clinton is still heavily favored to win big on Super Tuesday. And despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth by Obama's supporters, it's been likely from the beginning that the Convention will choose to seat the Michigan and Florida delegates because the Democratic candidate, whoever it is, will need those states to win in November. The seating of those delegates will likely benefit Hillary, too.

So some explanation has to be found why Clinton will win and Obama will lose in those arenas. The obvious explanation that Clinton has a wider appeal than Obama, a better platform, is apparently unacceptable to many of his supporters. So the caricature of Evil Hillary, which not only bears no resemblance to the actual person but is barely recognizable as a human being, has been created to explain Obama's failures. Believing in this caricature requires hate.

Ergo, the hate.

When Bill Clinton was red faced and angry about "his wife" being wronged, my mind flashed back to the movie "The Kill a Mockingbird."

"How dare that (Black) man taint (MY - white privileged and patriarchal ownership) May Ella."

Bill Clinton has taken a page out of Atwater's play book for "Southern Strategy" but, in today's America, it blew up in his RACIST face.

75. It was a little shocking.
Concessions aren't really for the other candidate, they're for the supporters, to thank them and pump them up for the next round. Jetting off like that was like flipping them the bird. Edwards, on the other hand, was a class act. I was touched by the sincerity of his speech and how much he appreciated his supporters and the support he did get from the people of SC. He impressed me with his courage, his humility and his graciousness. I'm voting for Obama, but I'm now certain that I'll have no problem supporting Edwards should he win the nomination. Working for a candidate isn't easy. It's hard work and it is exhausting both physically and emotionally. And all supporters want (other than a victory) is acknowledgment. Ditto with voters. How a candidate treats their supporters (whether they win or lose) reflects on how that candidate will treat the people they are asking to represent.

EVERY supporter out there who gave up time with their family, canvassed and telephoned should be thanked for their participation in our democracy. Winning is great and losing hurts like Hell. Sometimes supporters feel the disappointment of a loss a much as does the candidate. Edwards supporters had heir candidate there to thank them. I didn't feel sorry for Edwards supporters because he showed that their work wasn't wasted. It was like a parent saying okay, you got a "C" this time but I still love you and we will work on that "A" for next time. Like I said, a class act.

Face it, Bill Clinton's behavior across the last week in SC is nothing less than deplorable. You can't explain it away other than a DEPLORABLE attempt to "divide and conquer" through race-baiting.

And I'm sure Mark Penn will have him play "the divisive role" in order to pit latinos against blacks. What they don't realize is that THE ENTIRE COUNTRY is sickened by this smarmy form of "divide and conquer" politics.

I do hope and pray that people of all ethnicities join together WITH Obama.
