Edward Kennedy to endorse Obama, officials say

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 13 minutes ago

MACON, Ga. - Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts will endorse Senate colleague Barack Obama for president, party officials confirmed Sunday.

The endorsement will be announced Monday in Washington, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak officially.

In a television interview Sunday, Obama would not answer questions about an endorsement from Kennedy.

"I'll let Ted Kennedy speak for himself. And nobody does it better," he said on ABC's "This Week." "But obviously, any of the Democratic candidates would love to have Ted Kennedy's support. And we have certainly actively sought it. And you know, I will let him make his announcement and his decision when he decides it's appropriate."

6. Wealthy Elite for Obama
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 04:23 PM by neutron
The rest of us have to look under the hood and
make absolutely sure the car will run.

Hillary has the brainpower and the drive. I don't know
much about Obama except that his operatives
have been in the blogs smearing HRC for months.
And she has had the class not to reciprocate in
kind.

If he fails as a president the Kennedys will still be rich
and pampered.
Caroline's grandkids will go to Harvard. They'll dine
on fancy exotic food that cost a month's rent.

I DIRECTLY felt the impact of Bill Clinton's tenure.
We had the highest standard of livinig than we've ever had
before or since Clinton.

How many presidents in our time have done as much
for the middle class as the Clintons?

If Obama turns out to be a mediocrity, the Kennedys will
remain rich. If he makes neophyte mistakes, no skin off their noses.

They can afford to take a chance in the name of a lofty
dream of the Kennedy legacy. I can't.

4. The Anti-Clinton Factor
As the Democratic Primary campaigns go forward it is becoming increasingly obvious what's in play here. We are being gamed by Washington insiders.

As the Hillary Clinton campaign became more inevitable, Democratic power brokers in the Senate began to form an opposition plan. They needed a candidate to put forward to mount an attack on Clinton. Enter Senator Obama, already a protege of John Kerry - attractive, brilliant speaker, inexperienced in the ways of Washington DC - and extremely ambitious. Also, and most importantly, a candidate who had the ability to dilute the support of the Clinton base of African-America voters.

Ever wonder where all the initial support to launch a competive campaign for a relative unknown came from? It was delivered directly from the Senate Democrats, and others who will do anything to keep the Clintons out of the White House. This could not be more clear as the endorsements from the power brokers unfold.

The Obama campaign is not about change. It is not about Hope. It is not about the American people. It is about consolidating the power of those entrenched interests in Washington DC who no longer want to share that power with the Clintons.

8. Maybe Democrats are sick of the Clintons. Did that thought every cross your mind?
Your post makes Hillary Clinton out as a vehicle of change, who will go to Washington and shake things up. Please.

13. Emoticons and silliness...
...do not seem to accompany rational thought. No remarks or inferences about the Clintons, including Hillary Clinton can be found anywhere in my post. And yes, the thought Democrats both inside and outside of Washington DC are sick of the Clintons is very much on my mind. The point is, without the Clinton factor there would be no Obama factor. We are being gamed.

I am with Edwards and hoping Gore will step in. This campaign has become a disaster for the Democrats. WHY do we need Hillary Clinton OR Barack Obama? Because this is where the corporate media and entrenched Washington power brokers want to lead us?

We really have become a nation of sheep.

10. That makes sense and is totally sickening.
"most importantly, a candidate who had the ability to dilute the support of the Clinton base of African-America voters."

I guess this is keeping in line with the behavior of our spineless dems. While we watch and listen wide eyed with amazement, they all know what they are doing.
