Here's how I view endorsements - |
|
they're really nice to have, but they don't directly get you votes.
They do two main things: If it's a big one, like Kennedy's, it gets your name in the news. That's always good when you're running. Second, they often come with organizational support - mailing lists, fundraiser lists, even staff help. That's always good to have.
So those things can TRANSLATE to votes, but that's the extent of the gimme. I doubt there are very many people who change their minds based on an endorsement.

1. I think the non die hard political followers can be influenced by an endorsement like Kennedy |

2. This is more about super delegates and local politicians |

This is where Kennedy's endorsement matters. Perhaps with a small group of senior citizens as well, but mostly with Super Delegates and local politicians.

3. I agree with you, except I would add that some people at least will |

take a second look at someone they may have written off, especially if that endorsement is someone they relate to in some way. For example, a Ted Kennedy's endorsement may (or may not, depending on that person's view) cause an older voter to look at Obama again, either in a good light or a bad light. An endorsement by a union may have other union members taking a second look at a candidate they may not have looked at closely before, like someone who has always been leaning Edwards might relook at Hillary for her union endorsements. But I agree it doesn't necessarily translate into votes.
