Look at the Republican primary - its nasty, but nothing like ours... |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 06:17 PM by sfam
How sad is this when the Republican primary is nowhere near as nasty as the Democratic primary. You'd think our candidates would have really thought about the damage they are causing in the general election. Too bad this isn't the case.
And no, I'm not all that interested in finger pointing. I'm sure we all will point to the other candidate we don't support (or candidates in Edwards' case) as being responsible (I certainly know who I would blame). But in the end, the entire democratic field suffers - perhaps critically so.
I'm just sad that our field of candidates have ended up with a "win at all costs" type primary. Worse, I'm sad that the republican primaries look honorable when compared to our primaries.

1. MSM isn't airing the shit they fling that much - you just don't know |
|
On us - it's win-win for the MSM. They designate the loser to their guy and enhance the general damage.

10. As hungry as the MSM is.... |
|
...to air conflict of any type, I doubt seriously that there's been a major GOPer meltdown that we wouldn't have heard about.

2. There are two reasons, imo |
|
The first, I'll leave alone. The second is that McCain has only recently become a threat to the first place position; I think things will heat up between him and Romney around Feb 5.

5. I'm wondering if the republicans are holding back 'cause they know the chances are slim anyways |
|
Perhaps they aren't unloading the true sleaze this time because they know they will have no chance if they do. We don't see anything like a "McCain fathered an illegitimate black baby" type slander on their side. Yet we see just a step or two above this on the democratic side. Perhaps we have our heads up our asses so much that we think even "we" can't fuck it up this time.
But we're certainly trying. We just might succeed...

(1) We've not seen the Repugs unsheath the long knives yet. It will happen.
(2) If you think it's nasty on our side right now, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Wanna see nasty? Think back to 1980. This is "Sesame Street" compared to that.

9. How'd that work out for us? Not too good if I remember 1980... |
|
Saying we're not as bad as 1980 "yet" is hardly a ringing endorsement for our chances this time...

8. Lets see - racist former president, say anthing first lady, race-baiting black guy...what else? |
|
Sorry, but I think we've gotten fairly sleazy - incredibly so in fact. I do have it on good authority that both campaigns have some true sleaze stories they can sling if things go thermo-nuclear, but outside of this, its hard to imagine it gets much worse. Truly.

This hasn't been so bad. For the most part.
