AP reporting on the Obama handshake snub - w/ PICTURES

Edited to add pictures. Judge for yourselves:

No Chitchat Between Clinton and Obama
By LAURIE KELLMAN – 26 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — So close, yet so far away — and so bitter.

Rival Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama came within a foot of each other just before President Bush's State of the Union speech Monday night and managed not to acknowledge each other, and certainly not touch.

Clinton, clad in scarlet, crossed the aisle between their seats on the House floor and reached out a hand to greet Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Democratic icon whose endorsement she had courted only to lose it to Obama.

Kennedy shook her hand while Obama, wearing a dark suit and standing between the two, turned away.

18. You get a sense of who he is
when you stay in the blogs a while.
His supporters are ruthless about sliming.
After all these months he knows what's going on and
could put a stop to it, and he doesn't.

HRC does not do this crap.
I realized I do not like Obama supporters, and if these
are Obama's people, I don't like Obama.

His classless shun is no surprise. And I suspect
he's ashamed as well.

66. Kennedy endorsed Obama because he knows he will be spending
MUCH more time with him in the Senate when he has to go back there after losing the nomination!

Regarding the OP: Hillary is and always has been classy about this kind of stuff. She shows her maturity.

This was both petty and cowardly. The day was all triumph for him. It is always for the victor to be gracious and merciful. But the gracious one was Hillary Clinton, as she has always been.

61. That's the scariest part. And it may be a PATTERN.
After Iowa, when his fans were hailing him as the messiah, he made that dreadful "You're likable enough, Hillary" comment in the debate. It disgusted the women who had to vote in NH.

Now he's had a stunning victory plus the most glorious endorsements in America delivered, not quietly, but as a major national event. He was hailed as the heir to America's fallen hero, JFK.

And he does this. Something so easy to avoid, something that could have been another glowing example of his gloriousness, instead voids it all. He could have greeted her instead of turning away.

I actually caught myself wondering if he was gonna blow the triumph of SC the way he did Iowa. I dismissed it as a fluke. I never thought he would make such a basic error. But he did.

I don't like him. The more I learn about him, the more uneasy I get. But I was willing to concede it might be wishful thinking.

Two incidents isn't enough to make a pattern. I'll wait to see what happens after his NEXT triumph.

52. this is getting ridiculous ...
maybe Hillary and Obama didn't see the need to warmly greet and acknowledge each other because ...

they had been hanging out in the cloak room just before entering the House chamber, comparing notes over coffee and croissants. Barack was complaining about all the weight he's gained during the campaign, and Hillary's not getting enough sleep because she just gotta catch the overnight Dr. Phil rerun. Meanwhile, a couple of tables down, Michelle and Bill were engrossed in a game of checkers while munching on some McChicken McNuggets from McDonalds.

Why not? It's just as likely as all the other crap I've been reading on DU.

They're human beings, not super-heroes! These campaigns can't be easy on them, give them a break and stop judging them!

"There was no video of this .. look to me like he was looking the other way and applauding. Did I miss something?"

There are 2 pictures. If you see them together, you'll see what happened. The first one shows Obama glaring at Hillary's back. He was standing in FRONT of Kennedy at this time. The second picture shows Hillary coming their way, and Obama has now moved all the way BEHIND Kennedy, looking away, with the same scowl on his face.

just like the "likeable enough" non-issue Obama needs to realize he is being closely looked at. If Hillary is stomping towards him shaking hands he should at least nod rather than obviously run away. He should know that haters are looking for ammo against him like this. Bad move on his part.
