11. Maxine Water was on Crew's list as one of "13 most corrupt" members of Congress in 2005
Echoes of 1994 With Current Scandals?

By Terry M. Neal
washingtonpost.com Staff Writer
Tuesday, September 27, 2005; 12:04 PM

This week, CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) also released its list of "13 most corrupt" members of Congress. On the list, were 11 Republicans, including Frist, Delay, Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) and House Majority Whip Roy Blount (Mo.) and two Democrats, Reps. Maxine Waters (Calif.) and Bill Jefferson (La.).

While CREW bills itself as nonpartisan, some conservatives have complained that CREW is anything but, noting among other things that Sloan worked in the past as a Democratic staffer in the House.

17. She's not on the list anymore

Your list is two years old. Congresswoman Waters' name has been taken off.
http://www.beyonddelay.org/about

Gee, I wonder why you didn't bother to look up the updated list. Could it be you were more interested in smearing her character than actually informing us of something we needed to know?

Fwiw, she was only on it in the first place because of about her daughter's business activity. Pretty lame.

But then, I have noticed a tendency at DU to attack anyone who, God forbid, supports a different candidate than the poster. I've seen George McGovern called senile, Wes Clark called a Republican, Joe Wilson called an opportunist, and on and on and on.

Not that Obama fans are the only guilty ones, but I have to wonder... is this the sort of "unity" Obama claims to believe he can bring to America? And if he can't unify the party, how in the HELL is he gonna unify with Republicans?

21. Wikipedia: Waters was on CREW's list in 2005, 2006. Perhaps she has cleaned up her act since then.
Waters was named in 2005<4> and 2006<5> as one of the "most corrupt" members of congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. They said, "Her ethics issues arise from her exercise of this power to financially benefit her daughter, husband and son." They said that Waters' daughter Karen charges other politicians to appear on mailers sent to constituents in Los Angeles showing her mother's support for the politician. Karen has received $450,000 in fees from this endeavor and Waters' son Edward has received $115,000. Waters' husband Sidney benefited from his wife's connections with his hiring as a political consultant by a firm, Siebert, Brandford, & Shank, seeking government investment. Sidney Williams earned $500,000 from this consulting, which consisted of introducing Siebert to politicians his wife had supported. Sidney and Edward Williams also benefitted when they won a contract to run a Los Angeles golf course, with the decision made by a county supervisor who had won a close race after Waters' endorsement and from which they made financial gain of between $140,000 and $400,000.<6> Citizens for Ethics says this violates House ethics rules for family members' financial gains.

22. It's still outdated information
But I guess that doesn't matter. Since she has endorsed Hillary, anything to drag her thru the mud is appropriate to post on DU, right? I mean, it's not like she's a Democrat, is she... oh wait, she is? Well, she must be on of the DINOs because she hasn't taken a stand against the war or worked hard for Democratic principles and programs... oh wait, she has? Well, fuck her anyway, right?

:sarcasm:

23. Maxine's a good woman, and her relationship with the Clintons
goes back a lot further than that of Obama. But, do you remember the 2000 election when Maxine was looking for a Senator, ANY Senator to sign on so that the electors would not be certified? Because being a very smart and passionate woman, she knew (like the rest of America) that the election had been stolen. Not one, not even HRC who had just been elected, would help her out. Misplaced loyalty? Perhaps....

24. Perhaps
I think that's valid criticism, fwiw. One of the many votes, or non-votes, of Hillary's that has disappointed me, even if I understand it. When Al Gore himself wouldn't even stand up for the FL voters, it would have been hard for a rookie Senator to do so, even one with Clinton's political capital.

I guess the lesson to be learned it that there are no perfect candidates. You just have to pick the one you think would do the best job based on what you think is most important. For me that's Hillary. For someone else that might be Barack.

But I don't think we should be demonizing all those who choose differently than ourselves.

10. They have known each other for yrs and have a close working
relationship and Maxine knows she is the best at this time or she wouldn't be voting for her. I hope to see Jackson-Lee back Hillary also,

12. Jackson-Lee does back Clinton...she said so on Bill Maher before
the strike. This may be the best possible news for Obama, because as I see it, if the entire CBC endorsed Obama he would definitely be pidgeon-holed as the "black" candidate. This way, spreading the endorsements around, just seems to be more fair. That being said, this might not sit well with some of Maxine's constituents.

20. I love Ted Kennedy. I think Obama is fortunate to have his support and endorsement...
I'm not about to trash a Democrat just because they endorse a candidate whom I don't support.
