Obama campaign running ads in ALL Feb. 5 states except Illinois, has dominant ground-game advantage.
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 06:51 PM by calteacherguy
More than 500 paid staffers have been deployed to the Feb. 5 states, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe reported in a conference call with reporters today. He said the campaign has what it calls 75,000 "active volunteers" making telephone calls, knocking on doors and otherwise helping out.

To show what a difference the organization can make, Plouffe pointed to Saturday's South Carolina primary, where Obama won 44 of 46 counties and more than doubled Clinton's vote totals amid record turnout. He said 13,000 volunteers reported for duty on Election Day.

That works out to one volunteer for every 23 voters who cast a ballot for Obama.

"This is a place," Plouffe told reporters, referring to the ground game, "where I think we have a dominant advantage."

With vast territory to work and only seven days left, strategists for the surviving candidates are racing to decide how to apportion the campaign's money and time, not to mention the energy of the candidates and their surrogates. Plouffe said the Obama camp is now running radio or television ads in all 22 Feb. 5 states, except Illinois, where a recent poll shows Obama leading Clinton by a two to one margin.

10. I was a canvassing director
in SC for one of the 150 staging locations. I was responsible for over 100 canvassers throughout the day on the streets - and that was only one of the 4 staging location in our county. There were soooo many local volunteers some from NC, some from MS, from TN, from Boston, DC. THere was even a family of 9 - grandparents parents aunts uncles and kids who came in to canvass. It was INCREDIBLE!

Thanks for all you did! It must have been so exciting to be involved with something like that!

And it's very cool that an extended family of 9 volunteered for Obama. :bounce: Start 'um young!

13. Power of grassroots!
I was attracted to Obama's campaign style - outreach level - before I fell in love with Obama. There were almost no signs up for Obama anywhere - lots of Hillary and Edwards and Republican signs up - but we had the confidence that we had done the ground work and put the resources into the door to door work rather than posting Obama signs in random places. And we helped them turn out in record numbers! AWESOME experience!

11. Those Iowa millions
weren't just spent in Iowa. Stupid press said he was spending so much per Iowa voter while ignoring the operation in other states. Fine with me to have it under the radar, but shows how ignorant our press is.
