I'm confused... (my own "polling results" follow)
I live in CA. I know a hell of a lot of Dems (and Liberals who don't want to say they are dems anymore... ) Not only here but across the country.

Every single one, and i mean EVERY single one is voting for Obama... so they say. Not ONE person has said they are voting for Hillary. In fact, they are adamant about not voting for Hillary.

(This is not a Hillary sucks thread, nor is it an Obama rules thread...)

And anyway, i just think it's weird that in my own private polling i have not met a single person of any age or race or sex that is voting for Hillary. So the question is, how the hell is she getting all these votes?

(PS... the staunch republicans in my family are even voting for Obama...)

I don't want to open up a can of worms here... I haven't signed on to DU for awhile because i have been entrenched in work and family issues, but i just wanted to see if anyone had some insight as to something i am missing.

(And in case anyone cared, I am voting for Obama... not only because i find him inspiring, but because even though i loved Bill and voted for him to get to Hillary, I am wanting nothing more than to be far away from the Bush Clinton era... sorry!)

2. oh thanks... let me put my bong down.
:)

yeah... i know i know... but seriously... if i ask 100 people across the country, and not one says they are voting for Hillary... don't you think it's a little odd?

5. Look, I'm an Obama person too...
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 02:18 AM by Bicoastal
...but you're never going to get accurate results this way. When Kerry lost in 2004, I said to myself--"How could this possibly be? I know lots and lots of people, and not ONE said they were voting for Bush!"

It's just how things work when you live in the third largest country in the world. There's always millions of people you have no connection to in the slightest.

3. Well, clearly Obama will sweep the nation.
Or, your belief that your friends form a cross-section of America is, perhaps, erroneous.

For instance, you and I are not friends. And I am voting for Hillary. However did you miss me?

Ha! Seriously... are people "closet voting" for Hillary?

(By the way, nice to meet the masses that i know do exist here voting for Hillary.)

15. Her strength
Any other person would've said, in 1999 or 2000, "I've had enough". She had been abused and humiliated by some of the richest, most powerful forces in America for 8 years. She could've slipped away quietly, but she didn't.

Instead, she ran for, and won, a Senate seat in one of the hardest states in America. And by all accounts, she's been a great Senator. She's won the respect of her former enemies, and did well for New York.

She doesn't give up. She beats those who try to destroy her. She's tough as nails, smart as a whip, and cute as a button.

18. good answer and thanks...
i totally agree. and if she wins the primary, i would welcome voting for her based on those reasons.

I guess i am looking for change, but i can't even say for sure that Obama would bring that (or any of them really...). I don't want to feel this dismal about things, but it's been 8 years of shit i suppose. I admire that you can still see the glint in her eye. I'm hoping it will catch me again too if the time comes...

8. They don't want to admit it
You ever heard how everyone in prison claims they didn't do it? Well, a lot of them didn't, but that's beside the point.

Everyone wants to say they're for Obama... I never admit to anybody (in person) that I'm a hardcore Hillary backer. Did you notice Hillary won NH when everyone claimed they voted for Obama - and Kucinich's recount (before it got canned for lack of funding) showed that result was accurate? http://www.sos.nh.gov/recountresults.htm

Or how the networks predicted Obama got 70% in SC based on exit polls, and he actually got 55% or so?

People don't want to admit they voted for Hillary. But they do. They tell their friends they'd never vote for Hillary, they're going to vote for Fred Thompson! Then, when no one's looking, they vote for the person they actually think is the best candidate.

A lot of Obama's support is bandwagoning, and people feel uncomfortable dissenting. Oh, he has tons and tons of real support- he is an exciting candidate. But not all of his support is real.

27. See now that scares the HELL out of me.

If someone is ashamed of who they are voting for, to where they would have to lie to cover it up...
WHY on earth are they voting for them?

Before you bite my head off, it IS shame.

With this kind of candidate, where will our country be?
I'll tell you where, in for another 4 years where we are afraid to hold our heads up and be proud to be American.

Personally, I don't want that for my children.

9. I'm in California
And most of my friends are leaning towards Hillary. I say leaning because many of them have also expressed real interest in potentially supporting Obama as well. It's all very interesting. I think Hillary will win California. But I do sense some momentum shifting for Obama here.

20. i dunno because
i am in North County San Diego... (i spend a lot of time in the Bay Area though too) and it doesn't seem that way, but like i said... i can't really see any sort of rhyme or reason. I do feel like people are hiding their vote for Hillary though, like i mentioned in a reply above...

It may be a small group but most GLBT's in california are voting for Hillary. Google HRC(Human Rights Campaign) and it will give you an idea.

19. Ask them how much MSM "news" and/or NPR they listen to, both have been very biased against Hillery.
I only see what Jon Stewart shows of the Cable "news," but I do listen to a LOT of NPR and I can definitely speak to that.

The MSM and NPR have been VERY biased against Hillery for over a year now, pushing hard for Obama and almost completely dismissing anytime Hillery wins anything. It really make me sick that the Sheeple of this country are so easily lead around by the nose ring by the MSM and the Neo-Cons at NPR.

26. Describe your circle of friends and family

all of the various details like income, age, sex, ethnic background, etc.

Then do a raw calculation on how many people who are like your friends in CA.

Then you can make projections.

And oh, btw, you need to have a really big sample size, for CA something like 10,000 or 50,000 to reduce the margin of error to something meaningful.

Or just wait and see what the primary brings. Polls have been bad anyway.
