Edwards supporters - do you feel that John has betrayed you? |
|
I mean - he did promise that he would keep fighting all the way to the Convention.
By quitting the race he is taking away your right to vote for your candidate.
I am suprised that everyone is being so understanding of his decision.

When *voters* allow a cover of a magazine or an endorsement by a celebrity to dictate their votes -- they get exactly what they deserve. We'll see how *happy* any of them are in June of 2009.

if Obama is the eventual P, he will only be so for 4 years, and we'll be done with him. Forever. Like they say, be careful what you wish for.
I have always thought that hast makes waste. Things started quickly, die quickly.

24. That happened to me with Wes Clark. My son and I had driven to Nashville |
|
from Illinois to work on his campaign for 4 days and had given $700.00 to his campaign for a fund raiser in Chicago when we returned home. We headed home on a Sunday, the fund raiser was that following Tuesday. ON OUR WAY HOME from Nashville (which he lost, BTW), I heard on the radio that he was dropping out. I was NOT a happy camper, needless to say. :(

You don't preach hope to the hopeless, and then leave them with an empty plate.
You don't advocate empowerment for the powerless, and then ditch them for a better offer.
You don't promise to be the voice for the voiceless, and then stop talking.
Edwards got me excited and enthusiastic about politics in a way I haven't been for years. Now I feel like a complete idiot for having been so idealistic.
Is it any wonder that so many Americans don't pay any attention to politics?

He stood up and took it to them. The other condidates are good, but the MSM gave Edwards the cold shoulder and froze him out.
Personally, I believe this is now a strategic move from John Edwards. He has someone in mind to endorse.

John Edwards didn't betray us -- the Main Stream Media and the followers of the American Idol popularity contest betrayed AMERICA.
Between the *he spent soooo much on his hair* posts here in DU and the absolute shunning he received from a media intent on playing kingmaker -- he didn't have a chance.

32. I think it's a relevant question |
|
Already a couple of folks have admitted that they do feel betrayed.
It's important to face our feelings and share them.
Not just bottle them up and pretend they aren't there.
But I'm just asking a question. Not trying to spin it.
I think folks will be interested to read all the responses.

The guy worked his ass off. Uphill every step of the way. Underfunded. News coverage starved ... a fact which has recently become (ironically) sort of a background story run by the same MSM that has been largely ignoring him. It amazes me at this point anyone can discuss this in terms of a betrayal.
Betrayed? Nah. He has his reasons.
Bet let's face facts. In a real sense, Obama and Clinton (as potential first black man or first female President) present historical potentialities that sucked all the air out of the room. That is the stuff pundits thrive upon. And Edwards presented a real threat to the corporatocracy ... he might have actually roused the poeple. So the corporate owned media was pretty determined to keep any fresh air from entering ...
And the campaign has become nothing but toxic ... the running battle between Obama and Clinton with its racist and sexist undertones threatens to snatch Democratic defeat from the jaws of victory this November. Where ever this is going seems to have little relationship to the causes and purposes of the Edwards campaign, and even though he keeps winning debates based on polls and audience reactions, the MSM won't give him or his cause any air.
The corporatists have won this round. Again. Perhaps Edwards will have another day ... but I suspect the populist/progressive flag will have to find another bearer. I suspect Edwards is going to take a break and find some other way to advance his purposes.

33. when will you kool aide drinkers wake the hell up?? |
|
none of you believed the exit polls in 2004 but you did this time?
wtf is wrong with you people?
many of us in fla warned you of the fix being in months and months and months ago..and you drank the kool aide..you bought the fucking bullshit of the msm..you sucked it in deep into your lungs..and now you want to feel sorry for anyone when you sold yourselves out?
no thanks i won't be part of your party..
but do look how the fix was in here in fla yesterday..
a couple of the big counties did not show the results for hours after the polls closed..and yet Edwards was kept at 14.4%..just under the number to get any fla delegates..yes dears..the fix was in..and you are the ones who have now been fixed..your ass is the corporate whores asses now ..for good.
you go do the damn math i am sick of trying to save your asses..
i will spend the next year preparing to get the hell out of this country
i am going to save my own ass..since you didn't care enough about your own ..you were all too eager to drink the kool aide..
newsflash..MUKASEY just sent congress a letter saying waterboarding is not technically illegal..remember Obama didn't bother to vote for Mukasey..
bye all..I need a long vacation from DU and all this kool aide that is being lapped up here by the bucketfuls.

why people would feel 'betrayed' because he got them 'excited and enthusiastic' and now is dropping out. The answer is that we Democrats have not shown the will to fight it out in the trenches with the neocons and their thug; we want some damn Knight in Shining Armor to not only lead us, but take all the arrows. Get off your ass and participate. Participation is not just blogging and emailing and bs'ing all over DU about your candidate. Get local, get involved. The 30%ers, if there are even really that many, have taken over our country, and all we do is complain and bitch and stay out of the fray. You should applaud John Edwards for lighting you up. It is up to you to carry the fight. Spare us your 'pain'. "Pain is nature's way of reminding you you're alive."

People get fired up, they get emotionally involved, they give their time and money to a candidate.
I am interested to know how people feel when their candidate walks off the field before halftime.
I am not saying that people should feel betrayed. But I can understand if they do feel like that.
