Now, we HAVE to force debate on a peace plank at Denver |
Neither remaining candidate, without rank-and-file pressure, can be trusted to clearly break with Bush on the war. "Phased withdrawal" is this year's version of "Peace With Honor". Somehow, someway, we have got to get a REAL antiwar plank up for debate at the Convention and get it passed. We can't win in November by embracing a Scoop Jackson foreign policy, and even if we did, such a policy would force us to be just as conservative as Dub on domestic policy, simply because it would eat up all the money needed to be different than the Republicans.
For our party's sake, For our country's sake, For the sake of making sure our CHILDREN don't end up dying in Iraq/Iran/Pakistan/wherever else,
We HAVE to run as a peace party this fall. If we don't we're saying the race doesn't matter.

4. But hopefully without the teargass and nightsticks this time. |
The problem in Chicago wasn't dissent. The problem was the violent suppression of dissent. If the party had adopted the minority plank, 80% of the street protesters would have left the next day and Humphrey would have been elected. There'd have been no downside.

5. I feel confident that the outcome will be the same. |
The pro war candidates will snub the pro peace delegates. The war will continue. The party will self destruct. We will get another Nixon to kick around. Oh well.

2. To make that happen you and others need to be delegates to the convention. |
If you can't be a delegate to the National Convention then get elected to go to the state convention and elect delegates from your district that support that position.

3. I know that. And I will try to become a delegate myself. |
I would encourage as many people as possible to become uncommitted delegates, and thus be under as little control as possible from the campaigns.

6. That might be the best way. |
Otherwise I believe the campaigns have the right to refuse a person being a delegate for their campaign from the state.
