John Edwards, you will always be the first presidential candidate I truly cared about.

I never really committed myself to a particular candidate in 2004, and in 2000, I was too low-information to follow the Gore/Bradley primary (and too conservative, at the time, to really care whether it was Bush or Gore, though I did want Gore more).

Of the candidates meeting my minimum qualifications (ie. no representatives need apply), John Edwards came out with the best proposals, and he came out with them first. He stood up for his feminist, atheist bloggers after Bill Donohue of the Catholic League ran around bloviating that they should be fired for their opinions of the Catholic Church. That's really when he earned my loyalty. I couldn't picture any other candidate having the guts to hire them in the first place, much less refuse to throw them under the bus when they might prove inconvenient.

So thank you, John, for inspiring me to care. Thank you for sharing Elizabeth and allowing the rest of America to fall in love with her too. Thank you for standing up for what is right, and for listening to the American people, when it seemed like you might be wrong. I won't forget it.

I have NO FAITH in the American voters to get it right and there is a long track record to prove it.

This is the first time ever that I become more than a one issue voter (choice) - it was the issues and Edwards was the leader on those. It is really a sad day today.

4. In case it mtters to you, edwards did not withdraw. He SUSPENDED his campaign.

He keeps his deligates.

donated to and volunteered for.

It isn't about the people electing a representative -- it is all just a big game of who can buy what seat using whose dollars.
