Is the "Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee" legit? |
|
I just got a fundraising phone call from them. I know they have nice splashy web site but somehow I never heard of them before (or I have and it never registered). No big red flags from what the caller said to me but, based on other orgs that have called me, I thought it was odd that the number came up blocked on Caller ID.

1. The organization is legit |
|
They call me a great deal, but I normally just tell them I donate to individual candidates rather than organizations.

they're real. known as the DCCC. The senate has a counterpart, called, unsurprisingly, the DSCC.

Rahm Emamanual, a congressman from Chicago, was in charge of the DCCC in the last elections and was largely responsible for orchestrating the big gains we made. He's our attack dog.

Howard Dean has a different take.

There's issues there.
But the point remains, DCCC does exist and is a legit entity.

5. DCCC = official campaign arm of the House Dem Caucus |
|
They're legit, but if you are a progressive, you might have a problem with the way they tend to step on good candidates they don't think can win - meaning candidates who won't pull in big contributions.
You're better to pick and choose candidates on your own, IMHO.

Re caller ID blocked: not uncommon for any bunch of phone banks for call centers that get hired to do the work. Probably same for any big volunteer call bank set up. They don't want incoming calls because that is not what they do.
Yes, DCCC is a real DEM organization. But, as a practice, I do not give pledges to callers. If I am gonna donate, I go to the source.

in the past. After the lack of meaningful actions in congress after the 2006 elections, I opted to donate to candidates of my choice. I have had numerous phone calls since then, even though I have asked several times for them to remove my name from their call list. Most of the people I've spoken with have been polite; two were not. One told me that I only donated "tokens," and then asked for another token; the last one raised his voice when I explained why I was not going to donate to them.

The DCCC is housed at the Democratic National Committee headquarters on South Capitol St. in Washington, DC.
Unfortunately, in recent years the DCCC has started meddling in primary contests, annointing an Establishment candidate and funneling beltway money to their pick. It's a sleazy practice that takes the choice out of the hands of local voters. If you want to elect Democrats to Congress, give directly to their campaigns and skip the DCCC.
