Obama's preachery speechifying is already starting to get STALE. |
|
The usual problems: he reads intently from a teleprompter instead of speaking. Always scripted. Never authentic. And such class, dumping on his primary competitor, unlike every other candidate who spoke tonight.
But beyond those, his Super Tuesday closing speech really fell flat this time. Same old same old.
I didn't think he'd get through the primaries before people started catching on to the emptiness of motivational rhetoric when it comes to Presidential politics, let alone consider how little that kind of talk has to do with actually running a country.
That seems to be the case. Tonight's speech, very similar to his others, was like a hot-air balloon getting low on fuel.

straight off the teleprompters from the very start of his campaign in Iowa.
That's some kind of 'authentic', at least according to Obama and his supporters.
The other candidates, both Democrat and Publican, have for the most part spoken impromptu.
I guess they're not very 'authentic'.
It doesn't take brass anything to note the reality of Obama's scriptedness.
And anyway, this isn't about Obama being scripted. He is that, observably. This is about the effectiveness of his scripted preachifying, and I see it as becoming severely diminished. Others have started to notice it too.
Obamanots haven't addressed that reality even once, and I understand why not. They sneer back about the timbre of Hillary's voice in response. But everybody already knows that Hillary doesn't have a great speaking voice, and it is factored in to every vote she has gotten and will get. What is now starting to become clear is the vacuousness of Obama's carefully cultivated, totally scripted motivational preaching. And as charisma voters become aware, they are going to understand why so many people have been talking about political experience over feel-good rhetoric. Hopefully they'll start growing up politically, in realtime, getting past the stage where jingoistic bombast impresses them.
If I was an Obama supporter I wouldn't want to talk about it either. Which is fine by me.

And no, I'm not getting paid to post here.
I've been wondering how long before people get tired of empty motivational rhetoric and realize that political skills and hard-won experience in Washington DC is what it takes to run this country.
I mean, how many rah-rah speeches is enough? I think tonight probably answered that question for alot of people.

It wasn't just the content of the speech--he wasn't as smooth as he usually is when he was delivering the attacks, almost like he wasn't comfortable doing it. I wonder who convinced him to change his approach.

To see a Democrat gaining popular appeal for once, all the while promoting Liberal ideals and policies.
You sound jealous. Did you know that? I would rather sound preachy than jealous and afraid.
FDR, Lincoln, JFK, MLK, Ghandi, all sounded preachy. Not saying he's done what they've done but I do believe he'll try. And I certainly don't mind that he sounds preachy. Do you want a leader or an accountant?

Meanwhile, Obama is STILL sniping at(and mocking) Edwards and trying to trash Hillary at every occassion. Not classy nor wise... Even if he does win the primary he can't get there without Hillary's supporters --trashing them will not/is not goin' to win 'em over. Surely he's not naive enough to think the Repubs are going to come out en masse for him???
