anyone who dogmatically follows an ideology or person, and shuns the "outsider" and "foreign" ideas voraciously is displaying quite a few "cult like" traits. Then again, I'm also puzzled by people at sporting events, and I never understood patriotism either. I can't, in good conscious, be such an enthusiastic supporter of people I only agree with about 20% of the time.
