For all you haters, blasting Obama's style of oratory, what do you think caused Dems to show up |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 09:52 AM by zonkers
2 to 1 over Republicans at the polls? He has energized dem voters, especially young ones. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Obama is no dummy. Why wouldn't he lean on his strengths? I call sour grapes. When a dem takes office in a year, we all can thank Obama.

Honestly, I haven't seen it.
I can't support Obama - but he's a very gifted orator.

the second place dem beat the winning republican, even in the states Obama won, it's not THAT relevant. Obama may be attracting new people with his oratory, but he's not swaying the base much.

|
Obama talks perrty? NO. We were in WA DC and protested to end the war. And Congress continued to fund it (Including Obama). We voted in a democratic congress--who could do little because we did not vote in enough dems or with enough votes. Well....we will get enough votes this time.
BUSH and his policies are the reasons we are showing up in record numbers.

the media tells them to do. The constant adulation of Obama turns an empty suit into a rock-star complete with Oprah and glitz.
The constant attacks on Clinton are also taking their toll, how could they not. And desipte that--despite the constant negative distortions and attacks, she is standing.
She is amazing. As are many of the American people who are not swayed by glitz or media lies.

6. Your argument makes no sense. |
|
I'm no Hillary supporter, but some of those voters who comprise this "2 to 1" margin over Repubs voted for Hillary. If you're attributing that large turnout to Obama's oratory, then you'll have to explain why/how he drove people to vote for Hillary.
Secondly, I don't think people are bashing his "oratorial" skills; people are expressing the opinion that his motivational speeches are just that -- motivational speeches, heavy on emotion, light on substance.

number of important factors that have influenced the primaries. The grass roots rejection of the negative energy of the Bush-Cheney administration is an important one.
The results of our primaries so far indicate that there is pretty equal support for each of the democratic candidates. Both are helping to get out the vote. And you are certainly correct that the Obama campaign is bringing large numbers of people into the voting booth.

25. You should be praying on your knees most Obama supporters remain not even half as informed as I am. |
|
On the issues, on what matters to our school children regarding NCLB, on what matters to hard-working-america men and women regarding health insurance, on seniors receiving social security, on unions and true support of labor, on women and their reproductive rights being more that a "present vote", on the fairy tale "from the beginning" pomp, on latinos, on asians, on the GLBT not being able to fall on their knees to change their sexual orientation; yes you should be praying they don't become more informed or they would create record shattering "dropping like flies" statistics, truly.

32. It is always the candidate's problem |
|
And that is a bit of advice I think both side could take to heart. I've not made up my mind as yet. I humbley put forth that a Clinton voters is not going to change over a snark, but that snark may put off the undecied voter. Any chance to promote your candidate in a tight race should be taken. Gaining votes and getting the message across is in fact the candidate's entire problem. Both of them need me, not the other way around. When I tout a candidate, you could ask me a loaded question, heavy on agenda and insult and I will reply with all the good things about my favored candidate. Those that asked me why I supported a loon who saw spacemen heard all about the Kucinich platform. That's how to win votes. Here I read nothing but Clinton boosters and Obama backers whining at each other. For me, it is of no use. I'm the one you want to get to. Not a Clinton backer. And the Clinton people should be concerned with people like me, not with Obama voters. Just saying. The voters do not owe any candidate anything. Each of the two has a huge issue that I have trouble crossing. Don't know if I will cast a Primary vote at all. Penn or McClurkin? A toss up. Right now it is looking like Obama is going to pray my vote away. Just to kiss Fundie ass. That is his problem, not mine. I want a Democrat in office, at this point all we have are Cliton and Obama. So both fit the bill. Democrat. Other than that, both are not appealing to me at all. And that is their problem, not mine. In fact, it is the Democratic Parties problem in the long run. But again, I have lots of problems as we all do in life- making sense of a candidate's blatherings is not one of those problems. I'm not running. They are.

|
in my town showed up to vote Tuesday. Hillary won my town 59-38% but only 1,000 out of 8-9,000 Dems showed up to vote. Lamont-Lieberman race generated about a 50% turnout in my town in 2006. There was no visibility for Hillary or Obama in my town. In fact the only lawn signs I saw in town were 2 for Ron Paul.

16. his style is a phony one....Ted Sorensen & Sen Kennedy have been grooming him since before Boston |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 10:24 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
Ted Sorensen was JFK's SPEECH WRITER....lets be real about the facts, okay?
He is a good orator but it is theater folks....great theater but theater none the less.
.Theodore Chaikin "Ted" Sorensen (born May 8, 1928) is of Counsel (retired Senior Partner) at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and writer, best known as President John F. Kennedy's Special Counsel & Adviser, legendary speechwriter, and "alter-ego." President Kennedy once called him his "intellectual blood bank."
Sorensen was President Kennedy's Special Counsel & Adviser, and primary speechwriter, the role for which he is best remembered today. His inaugural address for the new president exhorted listeners to "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country". This call to service is the phrase still most closely associated with the Kennedy administration today. Although Sorensen played an important part in the composition of the Inaugural Address, the famous turn of phrase that everyone remembers from that speech was actually written by Kennedy himself, and taken from Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. This has been acknowledged by Sorensen as well as documented in several substantive biographies of JFK, most notably Profile of Power by Richard Reeves.
DON'T TELL ME IT ISN'T THEATER

19. Okay. So what's your point? That having a personality is a bad thing? |
|
That having political heavyweights in your corner is a bad thing? God knows Hillary has not relied on any big names in politics close to her to buoy her up. :eyes:
If you are unfamiliar with Obama's platform, then read it. Once you are informed, you might disagree with his positions. But, to state he has no substance is mindless blathering.

say obama has energized dem voters then acording to you obama should have won already but here is the rub, just as many people come out and vote for hrc as they do obama, so I guess you could say hrc energizes her supporters as well....and thats the problem you obama folks cannot answer, why is it that hrc is getting just as many votes (not talking bout a campaign rally) as obama?
