McCain/Obama: 41 to 48%; McCain/Hillary: 46 to 46% |

Hillary is tied with McLame in the latest Time poll. Obama, on the other hand, leads him by 7 points in the same poll. http://www.pollingreport.com/wh08gen.htm

2. It's not really opinion anymore... it's fact..... |
|
Obama gives us the best chance to beat McCain.
There's no doubt, really.
Hillary can't attract independents or moderate Repukes. Obama can.
Both Obama *AND* Hillary would get 90%+ of the Democratic vote though..... and Obama would turn out more voters, since he's clearly the driving force that is expanding the party.

11. It's just silly. Why even have an election if those polls were |
|
accurate? Furthermore, to win a general election, one must win a number of states, and not a popular vote.

|
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 11:24 PM by Blue_In_AK
why I would support Obama over Clinton (since I could care otherwise). I think now that the republicans have their candidate, our two need to take a serious look at who can really beat the old guy. I know that would be hard for Hillary to swallow, but the bottom line is we must win the presidency. There needs to be a lot of polling done (not that polls are always right, as we've learned).

Go spew this shit in Clinton threads as well.
I agree, polls should be taken with a grain of salt. However, you can't say one poll's fault proves another.

Something about McCain make indie's go ga-ga and DINO's hot for some maverick action.

A poll of a thousand voters nationwide is somehow going to predict who is more likely to win general election, where one has to win states, not popular vote? Right.

16. If the full range of polls consistently show Obama outperforming HRC against McCain -- |
|
then even if it were the ONLY reason to support Obama, it would be more than sufficient. What's the point of nominating Hillary Clinton only to end up with an unreconstructed hawk in the White House?
I would add that another factor -- which also goes in Obama's favor -- is the question of which candidate tends to gain the most popularity over time. Hillary is well known and those who really oppose her are rarely going to be converted. While Obama, as a "new face" (remember that in the General Election, relative to the primaries, you have the people voting who did NOT vote in the primaries and don't involve themselves nearly as much in politics. They in turn will know HRC more at the start, and get to know Obama more over time. Obama has CLEARLY shown that he overall tends to gain in popularity over time.
This is all separate from who would be the better president. But that issue is also highly debatable -- again I'd say Obama, with a strong sense that a Clinton Democrat is a Clinton Democrat, and much of what both candidates say is really only meaningful (eg concern about not having unbridled international trade) on Obama's part. But again, the whole issue is highly speculative and debatable.
IF THE EVIDENCE SHOWS OBAMA TO BE LIKELY TO BE THE STRONGER CANDIDATE, HILLARY CLINTON SUPPORTERS OUGHT TO RECONSIDER!!!!!!!!!

19. Take this poll after the primaries are over & Hillary crushes everone |
|
If Obama were to win the nod, then people would take him more seriously in the polls and they'd vote him down about 15 points. McCain would run away with it then.
