New Mexico to recount all Dem votes!
(The scene continues! :wow: )

New Mexico to Recount All Democratic Votes
by Ted Robbins

NPR.org, February 7, 2008 · It will be awhile before the last of the Super Tuesday states declares a winner. New Mexico Democratic Party officials announced Thursday that they will recount every ballot. Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama in the state by about 1,000 votes.

Originally, New Mexico's Democratic Party had planned to count 17,000 provisional ballots, largely ballots cast by voters whose eligibility was in question or who came to the wrong polling place.

But the Democrat-only contest was plagued by so many problems that the state party, along with the Clinton and Obama campaigns, agreed that only checking all ballots cast would insure an accurate result.

New Mexico apportions its delegates, so Obama and Clinton will each end up with a share of the 26 delegates at stake. And with the national race so close, each delegate counts.

2. New Mexico - 2004
Am I remembering correctly? Weren't there problems in New Mexico with the 2004 votes, with Richardson denying a recount? Something like that???

3. I think it was a 400 or 800 margin. Bush didn't contest because it didn't matter

7. IIRC he denied the recount because too many precincts used the
notorious black boxes and there would have been nothing to recount.

On the dotted line: Governor signs paper-ballot bill into law

By DEBORAH BAKER | Associated Press
March 3, 2006

New Mexico's 33 counties will switch from a patchwork of voting methods to a single paper-ballot system under a bill signed into law Thursday by Gov. Bill Richardson.

The governor, who pushed the proposal through the recent legislative session, said the system would make voting more secure and restore the public's confidence in elections.

"We believe that all voices deserve to be heard, and when it comes to elections, that all votes deserve to be counted," the governor said at a signing ceremony that more resembled a campaign event.
