Are there any other new Huckabee supporters?
With Mitt Romney dropping out, the media immediately began talking about McCain as the nominee now and how he would begin mending fences and lurching to the center, and running his national campaign long before our nominee is chosen.

Huckabee now has the chance to play a huge spoiler. With Romney dropping out, he has an opportunity to pick up a big chunk of his likely voters. I believe he will and win some more states, and may pull out Texas. That should give him some MO to justify staying in the race because McCain will still not be at the threshold, and Huck will have jumped over Mitt into second place (Which I read is the real prize in the GOP race - Reagan, H.W. Bush). Huckabee has a chance to possibly topple McCain, and who knows what could happen - scandal? moment? belief that McCain's temper and lack of conservative credentials is worth voting for?

The other big reason I think we should all encourage Mikey to stay in the game, is that the longer he stays in the game, and wins some states, and eats away at McCain's wins (where he was hoping to rise from 36% to 51%) McCain will be weakened.

My other hope as a new Huckabee supporter, is that now that it's basically those two left to fight it out, is that he really goes after McCain's plan for the GE; running as the scary, terra fighting, war bases in the Middle East for 100+ years candidate. Huck has already come out as calling Dubya's foreign policy as arrogant, so there's precedent. I want him to hammer McCain on this relentlessly as I think it will help him stay in until Convention; and he'll start our job for us.

There's no reason to encourage Paul - He's in it till the end. He'll continue to cull 10-15% in every remaining state, and raise slightly less gobs of money, and continue to fly his blimp.

2. Um, Huckabee isn't going to go against McCain's position on the war.
He hasn't before, he won't do it now. The tone for the GOP general election campaign has been set by Mittens' speech, it's inviolable now. That "arrogant" comment was an advisor suggestion to get MSM attention, not because Huck knows diddly-shit about foreign policy--he denied coming up with it himself. He'll just say he's more pro-fetus and more marriage-amendment than McCain to try to sway a few more voters, pick up a few more delegates, and suck up a little more free media for his book sales, and steak dinners, and Leno for a few more weeks, enjoy the love, and then he's done.

3. If he wants to stay "viable"
I think that's his best shot. We should encourage him to take this tact.

7. Well, my Senator is an anti-war Republican who was GOING to run for Prez, held a
press conference, showed up looking alarmingly like he'd spent the night before being waterboarded, and...didn't run. It didn't turn out well. Paul is a crazy mofo, he was already marginalized--the GOP didn't even bother to wreck him politically. I'm pretty sure Hucky isn't going to squander his goodwill with the party now, only to get "Hageled".

9. Yes he's loony tunes
But he's getting a pretty steady bloc of the vote in every state (and in some of those states, it's enough to win 2nd place. And as I mentioned above, 2nd place is the actual prize in the race).

This thread is obviously somewhat of a joke (but I'm serious, Huckabee should run until the end and start hitting McCain's strategy before us), but it would still be wise for him to take this tact - he can use the "arrogant" argument as he already has, and still walk a fine line for supporting the war. If he walks that line, he can at least make McCain have to return to the primary (it seems that he's already moved on to the GE - which I also think will help Huck keep rising and delaying McCain).

11. You make a good point--the longer Hucky is in, the further to the
right McCain has to stay, instead of moving center for general-election mode. Not a bad ideer.

8. Bad Idea. Fuckabee Won't Win, But He'd Get Enough Delegates so McCain Would Have to Pick Him for VP
and that means he gets to be President in a year or two after McCain kicks the bucket.

Why not make Mac keep fighting, and spending, and getting weakened politically?

15. Alternative is Romney.
Huck would fuck it up so bad, he'd get thrown out on his ear after his partial term.

Romney would be more of a battle in a re-election scenario. lol. :7

If you really want to talk about "cults" he is the candidate of cults. I know, I use to live in Arkansas. He would have me burned at the steak.

16. Looking at the latest GOP numbers in Texas
It looks like Romney's voters split pretty evenly between McCain and Huckabee:
Jan 31: Romney 30 McCain 29 Huckabee 20
Feb 7: McCain 43 Huckabee 33

17. Mike Huckabee's Willie Horton
MIKE HUCKABEE’S WILLIE HORTON

Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, the former governor from Hope, Arkansas, is hoping you don’t look in his closet because there's a Willie Horton hiding in there.

Huckabee's Horton, is a monster named Wayne Dumond. A criminal with a long rap sheet of assaults, and sexual molestations, Dumond was an admitted participant in massacre of a Cambodian village when he was stationed in Vietnam. Upon return to the United States, he admitted to participating in a claw hammer murder of a fellow soldier in 1972. Dumond was convicted of sexual molestation of a teen age victim in 1973 and confessed to a rape charge in 1976.

Huckabee, ignoring Dumond’s reprehensible criminal record, bought into the Clinton hating, rightwing, partisans, that were attempting to smear Bill Clinton for the rape of a 16 year old girl high school cheerleader that Dumond kidnapped at knifepoint, raped and terrorized for two days. Dumond was convicted of this crime in 1985 and sentenced to life plus 20 years.
Huckabee worked, against the advice of the parole board and law enforcement officials, to secure Dumond's release from prison. Dumond's 16 year old victim, Ashley Stevens, upon learning of Huckabee's attempts to free her assailant, met with the governor and said she put her face inches from Huckabee’s and said, “This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond. I will never forget his face. And now I don’t want you ever to forget my face.”

Undaunted, governor Huckabee toiled on, eventually securing Dumond's release from prison on the condition that Dumond move out of Arkansas. Dumond complied, and moved to Missouri, where six weeks later he raped and murdered, 39 year-old Carol Sue Shields. Dumond was convicted of Shields’ murder based on DNA evidence. Dumond died, peacefully in his sleep on 9/7/2005, before he could be brought to trial in the rape and murder of a second victim, Sara Andrasek.

Dumond’s murders committed after Huckabee had secured his release from prison resulted in a firestorm of public condemnation. The governor responded to the criticism by denying he had anything to do with turning Dumond loose on the American public, in spite of voluminous testimony to the contrary.

Blind adherence to rigid political ideology, an absolute refusal to accept advice from others and stubborn refusal to accept responsibility for his own actions, has not served George W, Bush well as a President. These shared character defects will not wear well on Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee either.

Ironically, or perhaps predictably, Huckabee is emerging as the consensus choice among so called Christian Conservatives. Go figure.
