It's definitely much better for the party to have a non-inspirational nominee |
|
I mean look at
Walter Mondale, Mike Dukakis, Al Gore (2000 version), John Kerry.
Oh man what awesome candidates.
and look how badly John F. Kennedy, and Bill Clinton did.
Man, boring policy-wonkishness is the way to go.
Bore me to the polls!!!!!!

1. I didn't find any of them non-inspirational |
|
And I would say they all suffered more from media assaults than true borishness.
But since we do have an inspirational candidate with great policies and a proven record, I don't see any reason not to go with him!

He is the last Dem who was able to run on fairly pure liberal values though, anti-death penalty and all. When Obama says Reagan transformed the national conscience, I guess the people who criticize that forget just how liberal liberal used to be. It sure wasn't like Clinton "liberalism".

24. You are so right with |
|
your statement,"It sure wasn't like Clinton "liberalism"." It worries me that in the decades since that election, people who grew up only have known liberal lite. It is not liberal. At least I have memmories of what it used to mean. The right has had a long time to frame things and the left has not fought hard enough to counter it. They mostly have assimilated to a large degree throwing out a few bones to keep the left in check.

25. I don't know for sure what Obama will do |
|
But I do know for sure what Hillary will do because I lived it when I lived in Arkansas in the 80's, and we all saw it since 1992. We'll certainly just continue the slide into warmed-over Reaganism and it will be more palpable in comparison to full on Bush politics that nobody will even notice how far away it is from what it should be. I mean it took decades to create the conditions for Katrina to kill the people of New Orleans. The same catastrophe could happen in just about any major city. We need BIG IDEAS to tackle all these problems, city and country and all over the globe.

2. Well, there is inspirational discussion with depth of knowledge and experience |
|
and there is inspirational rhetoric for the purpose of hiding a lack of knowledge and experience.
I choose the former.

3. Inspiration doesnt come from politicians |
|
...reading scripted stump speeches written by professional speech writers.
Substance is what we expect from a presidential nominee.

7. I'll never forget the '84 convention; two of the best speeches ever given |
|
by Mario Cuomo and Jesse Jackson...and then came Mondale. It was his turn and he was a good, competent politician, but what a what a letdown after all those rhetorical fireworks. At the very least, it was widely thought, Cuomo would use the '84 keynote as a launching pad for the '88 election, but that never happened. Instead, we wind up with Dukakis, the world's only passionless Greek...

she lies to get herself some votes and supporting the military complex as a senator is not my idea of a person who's in it for the greater good of all.. so what fresh hell will they bring to the whitehouse redux?

Yes he stole Illinois but he would've won without it anyway. And if you think that Nixon didn't also have his people steeling votes then I've got a bridge to sell you.
