GORE/OBAMA Compromise, if primaries give Obama only slight edge??? |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 08:30 AM by Sensitivity
I think Obama supporters should express willingness to accept a Gore compromise in the event of a virtual tie. Why, based on the premise that Clinton cannot have a big enough win to make a difference and will likely loose to McCain:
1. It would show that this passion is about the future of the nation not one person's ego. 2. It would acknowledge that the Change that Obama is seeking is in line with what Gore and others who are willing to look beyond partisanship to real solutions also seek. 3. It would emphasize the fact that Obama supporters really don't believe Clinton can win, but would sacrifice their own ambitions to defeat the Repubs and put an end to the WAR.
There are other reasons but I leave the question open. WHY NOT.

3. No. I don't want someone who no one has voted for |
|
and who didn't want the job. I didn't support Gore last year. I don't support him now. And the reasons you gave in your OP are absurd. I'd settle for a Clinton/Obama ticket before drafting Gore.

5. the democratic process- fucked up as it is- is more important |
|
to me than drafting someone who hasn't won a single vote and who didn't fight for what he believes in. My goals; getting out of Iraq, reversing the bush tax cuts, tackling climate change, etc. I think Obama has a strong chance of winning it all and that he will address these issues.

9. In most of the world, Political Parites do not nominate via primaries |
|
Are all other countries "un-democratic" and only the U.S. truly a democracy. I think not. Nothing is perfect here abouts.

15. I will leave the party if some backroom deal is struck and |
|
Gore is drafted. And I don't give a fig how other countries operate right now. NOT ONE PERSON has voted for Gore. Millions have voted for Obama and Clinton. He's not a fucking savior anyway or someone who's owed the nomination on a silver platter. He's a venture capitallist. He's another rich white guy. I appreciate his work on climate change, but I don't think he's the be all and end all.
NO GORE!

8. Yup, makes more sense....but such a deal is too easy...not likely. |
|
If there is a Clint/Bama thing...that would really revolutionize/rock the GOPs into a corner for years...perhaps never recover.

6. Why not? Because Gore won't do it.... |
|
This repeated wishing for a "draft Gore" movement to take hold is getting silly.
It. will. not. happen.
Get over it.
Obama ior Hillarywill be the nominee.

Methinks you've overlooked an important component to "compromise".

14. Dems winning in November. If she does not have more pledged delegates |
|
than Obama, it would destroy the party for her to lobby "super delegates" go give her the nom.

16. According to Party Rules, Super-Delegates decide. They are a big |
|
enough block to give it to either Obama or Clinton if the margin is close. They are not big enough to give it to anyone else without a compromise agreement before or after the first vote.

19. I know that. And I hate to think of the superdelegates choosing |
|
a candidate who isn't the candidate with a majority of elected delegates. If that happens half of the party, on one side or the other, will be alienated.

22. That is not the PARTY RULES. A thin margin will raise the "electability" issue for both |
|
and with V.P. experience, Nobel Peace Prise etc. behind him, Gore is likely viewed and more scrubbed, tested, electable than both by the convention.

I would prefer to see neither win a clear majority, and neither end up on the ticket at all.
I would vote for a Gore/Obama ticket, although I wouldn't be happy with Obama's presence on the ticket.
