Rhetoric and talking shit contribute to this environment re: Obama supporters gloating |
|
Folks we are heading towards the home stretch of this primary season and hopefully we will have a nominee soon. Fortunately I see that a handful of Obama supporters are self policing and reminding us not to gloat and to be respectful.
I'm going to try to do that for a number of reasons: 1) It ain't over and after Ohio and Texas the shoe may be on the other foot; 2) if Obama is the nominee I want the supporters of other candidates to come on board and feel welcome; and 3) if Hillary is nominee I don't want to have a record of having attacked her and having contributed to her negatives.
I won't dare claim the high road for I have been in more than my fair share of battles, mostly from the defensive position, and I have talked more than my share of shit. I will try to limit my shit talking but I ain't promising nothing.
Now what motivates a significant amount of the shit talking on both sides? Its the rhetoric, its the taunts, its the CONSTANT TEARING DOWN OF CANDIDATES BY THE DUers WHO DO NOTHING BUT BASH! BASH! BASH! There are some folks who do nothing but instigate and agitate, but I think the majority of DUers are reacting to what is going on and the rhetoric of others. When anyone's candidate is attacked mercilessly its very hard not to gloat or talk trash when that candidate does well. Likewise when your candidate is constantly attacked its hard to be happy for the other guy or girl.
I think we have a long way to go, but we really need to start thinking about what happens when we have a nominee and how we move pass this BS.
Within the next 12 hours I will probably find myself "talking shit" again, but for now I'm going to try and encourage a little peace.

3. I know. I'm guilty of getting so worked up that I react really badly |
|
to some posts and totally lose my temper. I need to get up and just walk away. I walked away for about a week and it was much better, but damn, when good things happen its nice to come here and share some time with like-minded people. Maybe I'll just start hanging out in the Obama Lounge :-) K&R.. and if you see me getting worked up, kick me !

6. That's why I put the 'agitators' on ignore |
|
It prevents me from getting sucked in to the shit-talking.
Also, totally agree with your reasons for not gloating.
Nice post.

7. Ignore is good but it seems there are new "agitators" everyday. . . |
|
. . .also a lot of the "agitators" are folks I have known on DU for a long time and are fond of so I don't want to put them on ignore.
