Forget Clinton/Obama, Why Arent DUers and Owners of DU Taking the Lead in Opposing Telecom Immunity? |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 02:54 PM by Leopolds Ghost
And for that matter, the entire bill (now that it is in danger of passage.)
This bill would effectively end the 4th Amendment.
Why has every thread about this been allowed to die?
Why was there no "IMPORTANT ISSUE" thread about the legalization and ENDORSEMENT (by Dems) of one of Bush's only proven impeachable offenses?
Admins, where do you stand on this issue? Why no yellow stickie thread?
Why no DU organized campaign?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I am curious if DUers can rise above making it a campaign issue and make it a personal issue and take action.

2. For some reason the DU activist corps has been dead for months now |

This issue would be an excellent one to bring it back to life. I fear more all the time that Will Rogers was just as right today as he was when he said "I don't belong to an organized political party. I'm a Democrat". That HAS to change if America is to survive as anything remotely resembling a Democracy.

The tit for tat one liner "my candidate is better than yours" threads are SO much more important! Forget the Constitution, Hillary is a racist and Obama is a cult. I think we need 100 more threads telling us so

a DU-endorsed campaign on a stickie thread on both GD and GD: P would help with all the DUers distracted by the primary battle and all the overwhelming traffic devoted to that.
We shouldn't have to keep threads on legalization of warrantless spying kicked.
--
I am afraid that the Admins are reluctant to take a strong stand on this issue.
Perhaps, with half of all Congressional Dems voting to LEGALIZE warrantless wiretapping,
(not merely hold Bush and the telecoms not liable for it)
the DU Admins feel it is not a core Dem issue.
Perhaps most of the people pushing hard for Clinton or Obama on GD: P would ignore this issue and say it was not a priority for them anyhow (hence the zilch thread views on this and all the other FISA threads both here and GD: P.)
Perhaps Dems "in the real world" as one person put it actually support the Terrorist Surveillance Program and want it to be legalized -- they just don't want to prevent customers from suing telcos for failing to INFORM them of actions in the PAST --
of what most Americans apparently regard as a perfectly reasonable level of intrusion on US citizen phone and e-mail correspondence.
Fortunately, when it comes to the Bill of Rights,
"Most Americans" should NOT equal "most DUers" or silence on the part of the people that run the site.

No stickie thread on both GD and GD: P == futile gestures simply to keep FISA threads kicked in the face of DU disinterest.

Still no DU activist thread stickie to save the 4th Amendment?
Skinner? Mods?
Unlike the SCOTUS overturning Brown v. Board of Education
(another event that went over quietly in DU),
You are actually in a position to DO SOMETHING on this.
