Could it be that Obama sounds so good because out side of Bill, |
|
we haven't had a great orator running for office in the lifetime of many of the people who support the Illinois Senator...
I mean come on, Gore bellowed but let's face it, he was lousy bad out on the stump...
Dole, Bush, Kerry, Bush, Dukakis...
None of the other national candidates have been nearly as eloquant as Obama...
And the rank cynicism that has prevailed throughout politics for the last two decades has soured many on the very art of politics...
Nothing againts HRC or Edwards or any of the other candidates on either side of the aisle, but I have seen better oratory skills at the local High School debate competition...
People are starved for soring speeches that challenge the emotional ties we all should have with a candidate for president...
Not since Ronnie talked about a city on the hill has anyone inspired so much enthusiasm...
And that was over thrity years ago...

21. To me, Gravel was the most entertaining. |
|
I loved it when he ripped into the others at the debates. Funny as hell. And honest.

3. And Bill didn't say much. |
|
I know, I know its Obama who is supposed to lack substance. But for all of his skills, Bill Clinton made this the party that doesn't stand for anything. Obama is a great speaker AND he stands for something people can connect with. This generation hasn't had that before. Its about time.

4. What does Obama stand for? |
|
List them and you will find, if you look objectively, he stands for what Bill Clinton stands for. This is a net good thing. It is just a big myth that Obama is different in substance than the Clintons.

you post the most ridiculous claims without substance or backing. It would be impressive if it weren't so annoying.

You, and every other Obamite, never answers because when forced to juxtapose the facts with myths you can't (for example, the "What policy disagreements does Obama have with the DLC?" produced not a single item listed by an Obamite on which he differs with the DLC's platform). Obama is exactly like Clinton in philosophy and there is nothing wrong with that. Why the obsession with pretending he isn't? The biggest thing is the blindness of attacking the Clintons despite Obama believing or doing the same. He is getting a lot of anti-Clinton votes despite being (Bill) Clinton 2.0.
In your case I once posted, with several links backing it up, Obama's position on the Peru FTA, Hillary's, and the DLC's, as well as that of its critics. You ignored it because the DLC/Obama/Clinton all share the same approach to trade. Someone with a Che avatar is in for a rude awakening with a President Obama.
No substance? You want to compare the number of facts I use in my posts to yours? :D

6. Bill had incredible CHARISMA. Obama is a better orator. |
|
Bill was a good speaker, but he was mister sensitive, also he was mister charisma. he was a rock star but for a different reason. women (and men) were magnetically drawn to him
Obama, now that dude can speak. better than Reagan, definitely better than kerry, gore, dukakis, etc etc.

Clinton was a great speaker but Obama is better. And Obama doesn't have the level of personal charisma as Clinton. He doesn't come off as well in person as Bill.

5. I kind agree, but Obama's style is what we used to expect from Presidents |
|
Havent really had one (outside of JFK's short time as President) that was a great orator since FDR.
Its a lost talent, as most candidates now believe "talking to" (or above...as Gore did) is the only way to give a speech.

with a twinkle in his eye and a "there you go again" patronizing speech. I never thought of him as a great orator like JFK or FDR... Obama isn't with those two, but he gets pretty damn close.

22. Mario Cuomo was the best orator since the Kennedy's. The man conveyed a great passion with his words |
|
Cuomo is the man responsible for Edwards "two Americas" theme.
Someone here was posting a link to his '84 keynote speech. It is very good.
Hart is eloquent, a great intellect. He is a prolific author, but not a true orator like Cuomo or the Kennedys.
Teddy Kennedy can still rise to the occasion when required as well.

25. I must add, that I never considered Clinton to be a great orator. He talks, and talks and talks... |
|
but he hardly inspires, so much as he always like to hear the sound of his own voice, like when he filibustered the convention in '88 and was booed off the stage.

24. His oratory taps into strong emotions. |
|
People read into his words what they want to hear. The people in this country are starved for change. Obama talks of change and hope and they envision the particular change they want to see, the hopes they want fulfilled. Nevermind that he can't fulfill all those hopes.
But at least he gets people excited about the Democratic party again. :toast:
And having raised hopes, he will be under considerable pressure to at least attempt to fulfill some of them. Especially if we keep the pressure up. If we want real change, we can't look to the politicians to just give it to us. They don't work that way. We have to demand real change. Real change in this country has always come from the bottom.
I'm an Obama supporter. I see him as being more willing to listen to the people when they demand real change than Hillary. I could be wrong. But Hillary is too invested in the status quo, the corporate establishment, the damn DLC. Whichever one wins, we must hold their feet to the fire.
