Poll question: Obama "plagiarism" story. |

Just trying to get a handle on whether the latest OMG controversy is mass panic, or selective panic.

14. This isn't even a "story." It should be called what it is: a Clinton smear. |
|
Which is fair game, because this is a pretty tight political race.
So this is one of many pieces of slime (public campaign financing flip-flop, wife is a misogynist, not vetted, fairy-tale, hopemongering, no solutions, etc.) that will be thrown against the wall to see what, if anything, will stick.
If it seems like they change their minds on a daily basis, that's true. With key contests coming up relatively soon, and Clinton not being able to score any policy points on health care versus Obama, we're dealing with quantity of attacks as opposed to logical attacks or even accusations that make sense.
My advice? This latest pot shot just makes Clinton look even more desperate. Turn the other cheek and just ride it out. Like everything else, once the Clinton's realize they are only firing up their own supporters with this slander and repulsing any potential independents with the pettiness of their attacks, they'll come up with something new.
Hopefully. We aren't dealing with the brightest folks, you know.

24. Neither horrifying nor overblown |
|
It is just something...it will be interesting to see how the Obama campaign responds if it goes on and see whether they maintain their equilibrium (my guess is that they will) or whether this puts them on the defensive. Tests like this are ultimately good because they show the Democratic electorate whether they are getting someone who has enough fight to stand up to the republicon machine.

25. The story isn't a big deal in itself, but inasmuch as it is an attack on Obama as hero, it is big. |
|
Grover Norquist said the other day, "Barack Obama has been able to create his own image and introduce himself to voters, but the swing voters in a general election are not paying attention yet.<...> Hillary could lose the election, but Obama could collapse. People already know Hillary and she is not popular, but the disadvantage for Obama is that Republicans can teach people who don’t know him who he is."
I think there's some truth to this. Obama's support is a mile wide, and an inch deep. Take away his image as an inspirational figure, and you pull the rug out from under him. I watched some Deval Patrick speeches on YouTube this morning, and the resemblance between the two of them in their campaigning is astounding. The "Yes We Can" theme, the focus on hope... It's like looking into a parallel universe. And it's that similarity that is going to be devastating to Obama in the coming weeks and months. It takes away his uniqueness as a public figure, and makes him look inauthentic.
My political spidey-sense tells me that this is going to be the first arrow that actually slips through Obama's media armor and sticks, and that further arrows along this line are on their way. The big question to me is whether Hillary can or will capitalize on this before it's too late.

Yes, this whole thing is entirely overblown. I do believe it's newsworthy but looking at all the posts here you would think that Obama just blew up a village somewhere.
Also, though there are similarities, Obama's gift to deliver speeches makes him a mark. I say let the haters have their moment here, it's the most they have on him. This thing doesn't have any teeth.

39. "Obama's gift to deliver speeches " |
|
What I'd like to know is, why can't he write his own speeches? Up till now, I thought his main negative attribute was pride, but I've changed my mind. A proud, confident person doesn't "borrow" other people's words and phrases. It's like the Oprah thing. Why did he feel that he needed her? A person who's confident in himself does not need an Oprah.

|
All that is left of the powerful Clintons is their smear machine. This will last for a day of fake outrage by the republicans/clintons then the real story comes out (which it already has). The Clintons/Republicans will ignore their ignorance and errors and we will go back to the Obama is black stories for a week or two.
