In the history of campaign ads, probably the most devastating was the one put out by the Democrats against Barry Goldwater in which the Dems highlighted Goldwater's sabre rattling. I believe the ad showed a young girl playing in a playground, then a mushroom cloud...
I'm very worried about Obama's electability against McCain. Not that I think Hillary would do better -- conversely, I think she'd do worse. (I'm sure some of you sense an old Edwards supporter here). Despite all the arguments going back and forth here on DU, the polls do seem to show that Obama would do much better against McCain than Hillary would.
But I'm still worried, especially about debates, and especially if some "October surprise" happens between now and November. Obama is an excellent debater, but he still looks like a little kid next to McCain, and if McCain pulls off his "ancient warrior, protector of all" routine, the gut reaction could override intellectual appeal in many independents and swing voters.
Personally, I think we need a SLEW of anti-Goldwater style ads. I think we need to fight hard (but not dirty) and show that while McCain may be a brave protector, he is also crazy.
"100 years in Iraq... 100 years in Iraq" "B*mb b*mb b*mb, b*mb b*mb Iran..." McCain hugging, hugging, hugging his worst enemy, Bush.
How can you trust a man who embraces another man who personally attacked his own family at the lowest possible level? How can you trust a man who embraces another man who called him a coward and a traitor after he spent (?) years in POW camp?
How are we going to have that 100 year war? The draft is the only way, and gutting our own infrastructure is the only way to finance it.
Do you REALLY want 100 years of war? Do you REALLY want your children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving 3, 5, 8, 10 years in Iraq and possibly Iran, and quite possibly dying there? Or would you prefer that they get a college education and secure jobs? 100 years of war. 100 years of war.
