This is not entirely my idea, see http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/77357/

If it were not for the war criminal, Hillary's campaign would have been a phenomenal success. As it is, everybody (including republiclowns) are so fed up with him, that they demand a total 180-degree change. People are turning out in droves, in sub-zero temperatures, everywhere, to wash away the * stench, and in some cases, guilt. As a side effect, and I think a bonus, Hillary gets swept aside too. She reminds us too much of the past. The power of desire to break away from the past is so strong that nothing, God willing, can stop Barack from becoming President. He is the perfect break from the past. Not only the * past, but also the distant past. Obama is the epitome of a clean break. This is the cleansing of America.

1. Cleansing - such a hopeful word, ain't it? Like "purge"
And while I agree that W setting new low standards for job qualification has something to do with this, as well as his enablers directly helping, how long do you expect for this to last?

2. It started in 2006, I expect it will last through
the next election. If the desired result aren't forthcoming then, I fully expect to see many congresscritters to lose their seats in the next mid-terms. People have had it with the status quo.

3. You know...
way back in 2000 when I was still happy with Slade Gorton getting the boot and the GOP being humiliated by Hillary winning the Senate, I was thinking about how the consolation prize to a Bush II presidency was that he'd completely discredit and ruin the republican party for years. Well, that was delayed, but it looks like it's happening now.
